now I am no expert builder...

But I seem to me able to build and rewick happily every time on my snapdragon and freakshow mini..

The kayfun lite plus as good, as every build, is less vapour and satisfaction than I get from the nautilus and gs air tanks.

I have tried more wick and less wick.

I have tried priming the wick and placing it as well as pulling it through the chimney surround bit and the priming and tucking down gently.

I have tried raising and lowering the coil.

I have tried 2, 2.5 and 3mm micro coils.

I have tried the navy nest and various other methods.

I always use 50/50 juice.

I have tried cellucotton rayon, ko ghen do, cotton bacon and some other Japanese organic cotton.

My conclusion the juice channels are just too narrow for my style of vaping.

I don't want clouds and sometimes get ok flavour, but am always left wanting from the kfl.

Is learning to build micro coils and using the ekowool I have sitting around going to make any difference...

Or am I expecting too much from the kfl...I love the style and the Tank like solidity but oh my the vape just lets me down...

Suggestions?

My most used tanks are the sub-ohm variety now, but I spent two happy years using pretty much nothing but KFL's. I guess I would have been considered a "tootle puffer" at the time, generally rolling a 28G or 30G 1-1.5 ohm micro and keeping the wattage below 15, but it was my absolute favorite tanks for flavor for my main all-day juices. For wicking, I tended to cut mine long enough on either side that I could wet it with juice and tuck it into sort of an "S" shape on the deck above the juice channels. I never bothered tucking it through the chimney like I would with a Lemo 2 or similar deck.

There were, however, some flavors that just seem muted in a KFL that really seemed to shine in, say, a dual-coil Bellus at .25 ohms. I'm assuming you've probably tried different flavors to see if you notice any differences, though. It may be exactly as you mentioned; the way the Kayfun is designed to work simply may not work with your style of vaping.

I'm vaping a 1.93 ohm coil at 8 and 10 watts on my EHPro Kayfun 3.1 and getting at least the amount of vapor I used to get on a Marlboro Red. I wind 3mm coils with 8/7 wraps 28ga Kanthal. I usually use Sally's cotton coil for wicks, but I also have a baggie full of smaller bags of Egyptian cotton pads from Madvapes. Both perform well.

My wicks are a light drag pull through the coil with just a little puffiness on each side of the coil. I cut the wick ends to where they just touch the deck and I use a blunt hypodermic needle to spread them and position the ends where the juice channels are clear of the wick.

They wick well and give me vapor that's about equal to a full flavor cigarette. I can blow two or three good smoke (vapor) rings on a draw. That's with 80pg/20vg Hangsen Tobacco, which isn't a juice mix that is known for high vapor production with the high PG content.

I get middle of the road flavor, but the Kayfun isn't known to be a high flavor tank. The Kayfun 4 produces better flavor, but it's a little more finicky in that you have to constantly replace some of the O-rings to prevent leakage.

I"m experimenting with my new LEMO 2. It's a little better for flavor and you can control the air flow from a Kayfun like draw to full blown lung hits with almost no back pressure, like breathing through a large straw. It's also an easy fill with the twist top juice fill hole. I've filled it and left it lying flat on the kitchen counter all night and no leaks the next morning.

Tried the s shape method...tended to choke with more cotton and then too light a vape with less.

Yep have tried different juices...little to no difference.

Flavour is good enough though, vapour and satisfactory pull is the issue.

Thanks for the reply.

Tried building exactly as you mention many, many times...never quite satisfactory!

Interestingly my standard vape, in either a nautilus or gs tank, produces a lot more vapour than I ever got smoking a cigarette...

Perhaps I am a tootle puffer but on the heavy side!

Yep reckon the kfl just is not for me...real shame...

Waiting on delivery of a goblin mini and a lemo drop. Bigger juice wells will hopefully give me what I want. Love my rda's but a decent rta is better for when on the move.

Thanks for the reply.

I get fairly good vapor at 9W on my EHPro Kayfun 3.1. It's all I want, anyway. I live in the Southern USA, so relative humidity is high. Maybe that's part of the reason. More humidity in the air = more vapor when you puff.

My Hangsen 80% pg juices aren't known for high vapor levels, but they approximate what I got from smoking and that's my target level.

I've experimented with 2mm, 3mm, and 4mm coils in the Kayfun and I keep coming back to 3mm. It's a coil size that allows enough wick thickness to produce better vapor for me. 2mm makes for a longer coil, but 3mm shorter coils allow for thicker cotton wicking. I haven't tried spreading the coils on a 3mm to contact more juice. That's my next experiment.

You might be more satisfied with the LEMO. It has high airflow for balancing juice feed and heat. When my LEMO 2 came in the first thing I did was rip out the stock .5 coil, wind up a 3mm 1.8 ohm coil, and close down the airflow to the lowest level. I'm a mouth to lung vaper who generally doesn't lung inhale. I turned the LEMO 2 into a Kayfun with looser draw. :)

It sounds like Kayfun's aren't for you. They're known to have a relatively tight draw even when the airflow is wide open, and more air means more vapor, so if neither is satisfying to you, you may have to look elsewhere.

If the draw is just slightly too tight for you but you really like the design, a Russian 91 might work well; it's almost exactly the same with a couple very minor improvements and a little bit more airflow. The Lemo and Goblin will probably both be to your liking as well.

I say this over and over but if you want more airflow from a Kayfun, get a Kayfun Monster V2 or V3. All you have to do is buy the base and swap it with your existing one. You can see that the juice channels are also huge on these. A real V3 will have a lot more airflow than a V2 but the ones below are pretty well the same.

Yep loving the lemo drop so far. It came with a 1.2 spaced coil, decent wick too. Rewicked with change of juice and worked well, though I could improve my wicking somewhat.

Meanwhile managed to cross thread the poly type middle section in the kayfun, so unless I go with the metal it's resting until I get a new centre piece.

Did notice clever wicking on the stock wick with the lemo - they cut the wick at an angle to improve the placement and avoid it overfilling the chamber, whilst still packing plenty in. Might give this a try on the kayfun sometime.

These look really interesting and a possible solution. Do you know what the deck is like...safe? Well insulated? Decent materials?

Thanks for the tip.

You are probably right.

Only thing making me doubt is a while back popped in a b&m store and guy there let me have a vape on his kfl. Not clouds but a nice vape, better than I have managed to build, makes me wonder 'bout my coiling and wicking. migt go Barack and see if he's still there sometime and ask for tips.

The lemo is good so far, early days, stock coil and wick were excellent, I rewicked with new juice and though plenty of vapour was a bit hot...think I could I prove my wicking some.

Not tried the goblin yet.

A lot of new suggestions from above to try. Really, in the end it is your decision as to when to say enough is enough. If you hit that point, I would prolly put it in a drawer/box. A part of all this is taking notes, too.

I have not had a KFL, so I have no other suggestions other than maybe to take a break and enjoy your others. Vaping should be fun and worthwhile.

I guess I vaped around it with the KF 3.1, Lemo V1 and the another. Still like the Lemo V1, simple and good flavor/good air.

Happy vaping trails!

Well the kayfun lite plus is parked up. Getting much better resultS out of the lemo drop and goblin mini.

Goblin mini tough to wick but more forgiving all the same. Mid tank got some minor spit back and flooding yesterday, seemed to correct itself as I went through the tank.

Taste is there with the kayfun, draw though tight is acceptable. Issue really is lack of vapour, just not enough and less than my nautiluses or gs airs.

I feel exactly like you about both the Kayfun and the Lemo 2.
I purchased 3 of the Kayfun Lite-Plus V2 (dual airflow) atomizers manufactured by EHPro and have been very happy with them. As I stated in another thread, I have had a lot less problems with my cheap EHPro Kayfun clones than I used to have with my authentic SvoëMesto Kayfun Lite-Plus V2 ... That authentic atty was a gurgling nightmare ... The EHPro clones are just sweethearts!

As far as the Lemo 2 ... I do like it a lot using a single 27 gauge 1.3 ohm Kanthal coil and the airflow way down to a pretty tight draw. However, I still think that the EHPro Kayfun clones I have still have better flavor than the Lemo 2. I am thinking that the very large chimney on the Lemo 2 is just a little too big for flavorful 'tootle puffing'.

I now feed both the 1.3 ohm coils in the Kayfun clones and the Lemo 2 with 13 watts of power and using my DIY juice that's 60% VG and 40% PG.

BTW ... I have found that a really good drip tip for both the Kayfun Lite-Plus and the Lemo 2 is a Kayfun V4 drip tip from Fasttech (seems to be just the right size): $1.31 Kayfun V4 Style Stainless Steel 510 Drip Tip - 22mm / silver at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping
