Definitely coils being used on the wrong device but you bring up another of my mantras. Hardware is Good, Software is Evil and Firmware is a necessary Evil. Since these are embedded OSes (essentially firmware) then I can deal but Software is Evil. I work for a software company. Hardware is bounded by the laws of physics and behavior can typically be anticipated( in all but high-energy physics labs ;-) ) to follow those laws.
