They are sanded with the mod and matched/married to the body, they come off with two screws but it's not something you can swap out. I have to sand the whole mod known and start over to make a new plate. That's the only way to get them to fit perfectly.

What you struggling with it does get easier with practice. Start with 28 gauge single coil 2.5mm 10/11 wraps for around 0.15 should work perfect

I was getting anemic vapor and getting "dry wick" on the display with a freshly squonked with...

Is that a spaced or contact coil?

Spaces have to be even especially make sure your beginning and end loop is not touching the coil next to it.
