Me too. Someday I will have a mill and lathe in my home shop. Someday...

I have a machined pen made of 7075. I'm kind of excited to have them match. I know that makes me a giant nerd but I don't care lol.
I want a pen AND a flashlight

Having moved from just interested to actually having to make some decisions I thought I'd better go through this thread again - it took a few days!
Worthwhile though as it changed my mind on what I first thought I would go for
Plus I am now pretty fluent in shapes (even the reverse trannie
), button sizes, materials and finishes. I confess that I don't understand EDM apart from it meaning electrical discharge machining - fortunately I don't have to
So I am all set for when my number comes up. The only problem is that all the different styles of mods shown in the thread look so good - it is almost tempting to say "just make me whatever you feel like"

The pen is Nitecore and the flashlight is a Sunwayman.
Trust me you don't wanna know what edm means. ..it means your having a crappy day. It's used to make holes in stuff that God doesn't want holes in, like titanium or when you get a bit broken off in a hole and you need to get it out, especially a Carbide bit, the edm is the only thing that can go thru it. When I break a bit off I have to have the edm guy use his edm machine to blast it out. It's also used in place of a bit, to make holes in titanium, in our case, because it's a real crap shoot and pita to drill .

My first introduction to EDM was far more pleasant. Small, portable unit for removing rivets in carbon fiber composite structures.
It cuts away the metal rivet and doesn't touch the carbon fiber. Much better than trying to drill out the rivets, where the composite is often damaged.
Yeah that's a little bit different than the ones that put a blind hole in a titanium block, or eat out a bit. I'd like to have one myself but I don't like having to do stuff that requires using it , ya know what I mean. .

That's always your question, $100 piece of titanium with a few days of work into it... starts making the cost of the edm sound really good. Problem I have ixls that m6 edm guy is 100ml away and a week turnaround so it really throws a wrench in the works..
The other way to go, the way I would do it if I had to do over again, is to have the edm guy do all the holes, he can get them to within ten thousandths then I have to finish up after I pay him $80 for each hole. . That's a lot easier but if you thought increasing the size of a hole ten to fifteen thousandths is no problem your absolutely wrong. Just as likely to break a bit and start the process all over. .
