So..I am planning to order a few things for the maintenance of my tmod (which will be here in a few days hopefully) and I thought of running the list by you:
1. The scratch pen by Euro tool.
2. Refills...not sure which refills fit the pen though
3. Deoxit gold pen (not sure how long it will last though..should I order 2?)

What else do I need to have? Noalox? or is the deoxit pen enough?
I saw on youtube a guy using a Scotch brite pad to shine a brass mod, would these work on my aluminum tmod, and hopefully take off minor surface scratches?

thanks for your help
Hey Tamer. The deoxit pen will last a while. I would get one for now unless you don't have access to them. Most tech stores will carry them. I use it on my main 3 mods in rotation and it last a good while. You don't need a lot of it. Less is more and you only apply a tiny bit where the firing pin meets the battery. You don't need noalox if you're using the deoxit. I wish I could help you with the scratch pen but I don't have one of those. A good guess is to buy the pen and some refills which would probably last you a lifetime.

I recommend the scratch pen, that's it. I dont use/like detoxOwhatever , I think if you keep your contacts clean you don't need that goop collecting gunk in there. I never use it but a lot of people do.

When you look down your battery hole, you'll see a black dot, that's gunk that is collecting/building up on the contact point. That's when you know how when it's time to clean it. If your button feels harder to push, clean that dot off. That's the only thing you'll ever have to deal with really. Your upper contact is copper, if you keep it looking clean your good.

You also want to keep an eye on your batteries themselves. They will build up crud on them, where they make contact, use the same scratch pen, (substitute sandpaper for scratch pen anywhere, anytime)

As for the outside of a brushed aluminum mod. I hit it with scotchbrite style pad, about the same grit level, before they go out.... So you can always go finer if you want a finer finish. The next step would be to use a polishing compound, (multiple different compounds, in a progressively finer make up) which will eventually get you to a polished finish.

That's probably more info than your looking for. You can always email me directly and I'll take care of you, any questions, big or small, anytime.

Thanks Tom. I'll take this as a license to bother you every now and then. Much appreciated :)

As much as you want, that license comes with the mod for a Lifetime.

Here's a blank copper insert on the TiMi prototype. This is where I'll be engraving serial numbers etc.

I really love the way the copper looks with titanium in any finish, you guys like?

Just did actually :) let me know if the email didn't go through

hey Tamer, what I did with the mod I sent you was with some 320 wet/dry sandpaper I went with the grain of the aluminium with the paper on a flat surface held top of the paper and pulled the mod in 1 fluid motion down to the bottom of the sandpaper.then did the other 3 sides the same way.if you lay your mod down on its side with the atty top on the left then you would pull the mod down the sandpaper...its not hard just sounds like you could mess it up...but you wont.i did it a few diff times after it got a few dings and was able to work them out.scotchbright is a lot less aggressive then sandpaper so try it first if ya want.Tom or anyone else if im stearing Tamer wrong please say so but I didn't think I hurt the mod and it always looked better when I got done with it.cant wait for you to get the goods,im still sure youll be ticled when they land friend!-Rick

Thanks Rick! that sounds like a very useful tip. I'm getting restless by the minute buddy..LOL. The goodies should land in Cairo around the beginning of February. Once they get here I guess I'll take a day off work to play with my new toys :)

Thaat all sounds good to me. Sandpaper is really all you need for your contacts as well. the pen is just nice because it fits nicly down the battery hole. it doesn't take much, you'll be all good and I'm available for help with anything.

Don't worry about hurting the outside. It's pretty commonplace for people to send me their mods for color changes and all kinds of changes to the finishing. I can take a green mod and turn it white, or anthing like that, I compleatly strip them down, they look brand new all over again. you wont hurt it. ... promise. .

OK..so what I got so far is that there is no real or urgent need for the scotch brite, or the deoxit and that sand paper would do just fine. It was a relief to learn that I can clean the gold contacts of my reo with a pencil eraser too. This suits me fine really because I'd feel really stupid ordering these things all the way from states to Egypt.

Yeah, thank you bro. This is the color you get to before green, which is the hardest, almost impossible...making it super hard to get just right. This one came out exactly how I wanted it to, it's just what I was shooting for. I was pretty scared the whole time, if you go too far you burn all the color off and have to start all over sanding it off and polishing it back up, 3 hours of work minimum. This one's right where I want it, in keeping it like this.

How hardy is that finish to normal day use off beeting around for scratches going through it to have the silver color coming through the finish. I'm sure u have but can u throw up a pic for size reference between the dualy, 10 ml 18650, and the micro. Curious how small those damn things actual are in comparison to the dualy I have. I do love the size of the dualy

Rick buddy..you're a real Gem! You're truly my Squonking Godfather! Since I got that first Reo and VA Cyclone & AFC from you, I haven't looked back! And with the tmod and the rest of the stuff you sent me I don't think I'll ever will. I just got a velocity mini that I'm building right now, but I don't think it will compete with the cyclone in the flavor department.
