I'm still torn between waiting for the goon LP or getting the classic now. I'm mostly a single coil guy, but do use duals in my Maker, just seems better that way. I'm leaning towards the original, because I mainly use my CC or my Pinch. Seems a 24mm Atty would hang over a bit. Any suggestions?

I think the original 24mm Goon would be a bit large for the CC or Pinch. It might fit diameter, but it is a tall atty, also, so a bit top-heavy for a small mod

The 24 looks awesome on the NutPunch but I would have to agree it would be a little MASSIVE on a tiny mod like the pinch or a CC single. But that new 26650 though.....

Check's in the mail for 22 black goon

He sure does!

I really want your thoughts on your newest acquisition after you have used it a bit. I have been considering trying one.

Had been on the fence for quite a while about that one myself. You got it, it'll be here tomorrow.

Catfish revival night.
Modified MyMod, and a Rogue.
Haven't pulled one of those out in a while, but I still like it!

Since Tom did mine, I believe mine was the 1st he worked on and it's now one of my favorites. Still working on the magnets to get a better hold other than that it is now one of my favorite mechs.

Really? I thought it was scheduled for today. I also am very interested in your review of the LP.

The MyMod? Really? Didn't see that coming. Should I create a mech? I recently attended a class at work that discussed double break contacts that nearly aleiviate arcing to protect the contacts and cut maintenance to nearly zero. I will dive in deeper. Evidently there is some sort of electrical anomaly that I was previously unaware of. More research.

Beez: on the big group that went out including Train's I removed the magnet that's screwed into the body and put a small oring between the body and magnet to get rid of the wiggle of the magnet and provide some adjustability. I then set the magnet so it just barely makes contact with the other magnet. Seemsto help. Personally I don't like loose fit anything on mods.

My first trial I put one of the small magnets you use on the. Lbc door on top of the goofy ones Paul used and its a lil better but your idea sounds a lot better plus I have some other magnets coming that might do the trick as well. I still say you turned a turd into a very useful and enjoyable mech. Paul had a good idea, I think he just way undervalued his time and any fixes by setting such a low price point and not changing it causing him to start cutting corners with cheaper parts and then rushing out the door.

Really? I thought it was scheduled for today. I also am very interested in your review of the LP.

So I arrived home from work to find the Goon LP's waiting for me in the mail box. ( Thanks Tom!) I tossed one conventional 26g coil ( mounted from the top) and it was easy enough to mount them as long as you cut the coil legs at the right length to plug them in and fold them over. ( as a side note, I am not too impressed with the mounting screws as I can see where people are going to have problems stripping the Philips head screws without the properly sized driver) In fact, I think it would of been easier to tap the posts using shorter screws from the top of the posts and simply mount the wires through the sides.

With that being said, I had it in mind to go in a different direction. I wanted to use 2.5mm 36g Kanthal over 26g 316L Clapton's ( they came out to 0.34) and I decided to go a different route in the way they were mounted. After studying the situation a bit, I decided to go with my original thought and run the coil legs under rather than over. Keep in mind that this way of mounting is not for the coilally challenged. ( I just invented a new word...:p) What I did was to remove the capture bar screws from the right and push them over to the left in order to achieve the mounting and used a fine pair of jewelers needle nosed pliers to bend the legs to where I wanted them before I installed them, then set the coils with my looping tool to level them out and then pushed the bars back over to the right in order to set the screws. It was a bit of a PITA, but it worked.

Then came the wicking which I like fluffed,( no spitting) but I made sure there was plenty of air gap around the coils.

Next up was to toss the top cap on and fire it up. Now, with the intakes wide open the vapor production was massive, but the flavor quite frankly sucked, so I started throttling back to find the sweet spot. What I found was that with the intakes set slightly wider than the coils the flavor and vapor not only came alive, but became much more dense. Throttled down further improved the density even more, but the draw from where I like it dramatically suffered.

Will it displace my love for the standard 24mm Goons? As of right now I don't think so, but the LP is workable. Only more time with it will tell the whole story. As of right now, it isn't all that bad. In fact, there more I hit it, it's rather quite good. It may take a few more builds to get the most out of it.

So there you have it, ( kind of long winded) and as always, YMMV...;)

Pretty much my take on it as well. The joy of getting something cheap lasts for minutes, the aggravation of a crappy product stings forever...
