Hello folks. I work at a vape shop and we are hosting a cloud comp soon. We had a great turnout at the first one we did but I would like to know some of your opinions on judging. We had the crowd vote on the spot as vapers went side by side. Please respond only if you have held, or been to, a cloud comp before. Which is more efficient and less time consuming?

Sorry, hit send on tapatalk before I was done haha.

I judge them poorly...as is I never know what the desired goal is. Personally, I've seen it work best using a camera with a timer. You give 10 seconds to hit it, and push the cloud as far as you can, then the camera snaps a photo. Hook it up to a monitor and record the distance on a white board.

All of our local ones are separated into two catagories. Mechanical and not. You get ten seconds to blow your cloud and its measured. Like you guys its documented with a camera and playback. The local shops have started checking things for safety before your allowed to compete. Resistance, battery so on. I think they have a cutoff at .15 if Im not mistaken. Nobody wants to see somebody get hurt.

+1 on the safety aspects.

Would be interesting to know if the vape shop is up to speed on all the batteries labeled +30A are not 30A CDR. Most are 20A CDR.

@Mooch (one of ECF's battery experts) has been bench testing batteries and has posted results in his blogs.

Here are links to some of Mooch's blogs:
* No matter what is printed on the battery wrapper => There are no 18650 batteries with a genuine rating over 30A!
* Links to all his battery tests to date => List of My Battery Tests | Mooch's Blog

We did check builds and limited them to .2. We also had them wick on site so no one could sneak all vg on before hand. It was also limited to 100w related mods. We did a distance comp and a volume comp. using the same 80/20 juice blends. The owners are a little afraid of unregulated mods so that won't be an issue.

DV8 Vaporium in VA Beach had one this weekend,3 judges scored on length and breadth of cloud. 2 classes were series batteries and parallel batteries. Series batteries were limited to .24ohms. Parallel was limited to. 14 ohms. All builds were ohmed out with dry wicks. Hardware was surrendered after ohm check. Max vg 0 nic juice was provided by the house. 321 count down for clearing out your lungs. 123 count up for inhale of vapor. Then exhale and push winners pushed 14 and 16 foot clouds.
