Will SS coils last longer and reduce ejuice consumption while maintaining flavor?
Sorry. I run it at about 35 watts.
Now, am I going in circles here in one sense? Would I be considerably smarter financially and experience wise to take the next step buying an RTA at this point. Say the Kanger Protank 4 for example?
What will reduce Juice consumption is single coil, higher resistance coil, or lower tge power level. On my Melo iii mini with pico 75w I'm currently running a Triton Clapton coil (.5). I'm chewing through about 4-5ml of ejuice daily and a coil every week.
Will SS coils last longer and reduce ejuice consumption while maintaining flavor?
TIA

Darn straight! As someone above mentioned 5 ml/day is not abnormal. Juice consumption obviously depends on how much you use. Jumping over frequency of draws & length of draws then usage comes down to how much is being vaporized. Folks use clapton coils and all the other fancy coils in an attempt to present more metal surface area to the juice, in other words bigger clouds and higher juice consumption. Also as pointed out two coils will burn more than one. The metal coil itself dosen't wear out and rarely actually burns out. The reason for replacing pre-made coils is normally that the wick is plugged and gunked up from the juice. So the question of whether SS coils will last longer is somewhat irrelevant. A smaller coil with higher resistance will reduce your clouds and consumption.
An RTA will allow you to build the coil you want and will allow you to rewick as necessary. Coil & wicking material is quite cheap so you shouldn't have to worry about the expense when building your own. Some RTA's are designed for big clouds while others will offer a single coil construction, sometimes both, designed for flavor over clouds.
Also be aware of your nic needs. Smaller clouds means less nic to your system so if you end up compensating for it by vaping more then you're not really any farther ahead. So consider higher nic juices and fewer, shorter vaping sessions.
I get about 3 months on each coil.Getting back to the original question, getting a week out of a factory coil vaping 4 to 5 ml per day is about right. IME, cleaning a factory coil rarely works well, and buys you very little additional functionality. Changing to SS will not extend the life of a factory coil.
Going with an RTA and building and wicking your own coils will result in savings. There you can simply rewick and dry burn the coil as needed, keeping your expenses down and extending the lifespan of your coil. The actual coil (the wire itself) may last weeks or longer depending on the kind of juice vaped and how gunked up it becomes before you clean it.
Oh, and no, you will not reduce your juice consumption by changing to SS either, although SS would offer you the ability to use temp control which might alter your vape pattern and maybe alter the amount of juice vaped. But probably not.
