coil tasting like cotton need advice

Hey all
so I bought some pre made clapton coils for my Velocity rda they are 0.4Ohms now ive been told that I put the coil in perfectly for my first attempts which im quite chuffed about lol, but for some reason when im vaping on my rx200 with it its tasting like cotton im using the organic japanese pads that came with the coil master kit V2 and I tried it in various sizes with the same result I also primed it and heated the coil up on 70watts I just dont know what im doing wrong would really appreciate some advice off everyone as im really at a loss

Tried really really soaking it before vaping.?

Me, I soak the things last thing at night, leave them overnight, wake up next morning, vape another set up while I drink a pot of tea...and Bingo a miracle seems to have occurred in the interim and all is well

Do you mean soak the Rda and coil? Or the wick? Sorry noobie here lol

Since the coil right in front of you, drip, fire, & observe. You should see Vapor..

Welcome and glad you joined. Sounds like your wattage is set too high and your burning your wick.
When starting your vape low, I find that the wattage that works for me is usually 1 to 2 watts over the lowest watt setting (where i can barely see the vape cloud on the exhale). Lower watt settings lessen the chance of burning the liquid and generates the best flavor IMO. This formula applies to non sub ohm'g (1.0 ohm is iffy non sub ohm'g--2.0 ohm's here).
After I get my Atty (coil and chamber heat up) going for awhile, I will often times turn the mod down a watt or so to see if I can taste more flavor. I'm often surprised at how much better the vape is by lowering the vape temp/wattage.

I always thought to do it on a high setting judging by all the videos :s so if its tasting like cotton its burnt? And whats the best way to soak it? As again I didnt think you soaked wick unless you were boiling it lol should I wick again then and start on a low setting or not? And here was me wanting to go onto the mods what a noob I am lol

was the cotton really tight when you wicked it? you may have your wick too tight..That'll slow down the juice flow through the wick to the coil and give you the burns..

I dont think it is it doesnt taste burnt just tastes like cotton and has no flavor and the juices are only 3mg nicotine and high vg

Start low,,than move up.
Was your cotton wick blackened? If so it should have tasted Burned & very harsh on your throat.
Again, prime & don't replace the topcap untill you are satisfied with what you smell/see..

Nope was blackened at all and I primed it and what not and it just tastes like like cotton all everytime

You may be one of those people who just don't like cotton. I don't get it myself, but there are a lot of people who complain that they can taste cotton and move on to wicking with other materials instead.

Whenever it comes to a coil/wick question it helps a lot if you can post an image of your build.

When I first vape on a cotton wick, I usually get that cottony taste for maybe five hits, then my juice flavor takes over. I'd say just vape through it for a bit and see if it goes away.

I ALWAYS get a short time of cotton flavor when i am breaking in new cotton. Normally it goes away after a short while.

Being an Old Mean Scotsman I only use cotton balls. I obviously didn't explain myself clearly enough, though.

Right - what I do is re-wick my drippers and soak them. I take a couple of pulls and re-soak them...then I leave them overnight, re-soak them in the morning and vape away.

When I first wick them, sometimes but not always, they taste "cottony" first off. Next morning they don't, using this system. Also doing this - with me, maybe only, new coils don't spark, pop or bang either...OK I'm probably wrong but this works for me!!!!

Back when people first got into wicking with cotton rather than silica, a cotton taste was often noticed at first. As long as you aren't burning it and you have the right density/thickness in the coil it should go soon enough.

Well I took both the cotton and the coil out put a new pre made Clapton coil in and it still tastes bad I'm definitely doing something wrong starting to wonder if maybe I will never get it right I mean I did everything everyone has suggested and I copied various videos still the same either bad or now burnt taste

Are you pulse dry burning the new clapton coil (no wick installed) to make sure it is glowing evenly and you are burning off all the impurities that may be on a new coil.
