Hi everyone,

Need a little help. No matter what tank I'm using (Zephyrus, subtank & goblin mini), my coils burn out way too quickly. I've heard of people using their coils for weeks but I'll get that burnt up taste after one or two days. I'll use the OCC coils until they burn out (1-2 days) and then i'll make my own coils. After which I'll do a dry burn to get all the gunk off the coils but it'll give me the burnt taste again in less than a day or two. I always stay below 30W and i'm not going crazy with the watts. Could anybody shine some light on this?

P.S. I've read that vaping on sweeter juices will cause this to happen, so I've switched over to some other "less sweeter" juices but the problem still persists.

Gunking and burnt taste are two different issues.

If you're using high VG juices they wick much slower than a 50/50 mix so you may not be giving the coil time to wick properly between draws. If the cotton isn't properly "juiced" it will burn easier. Are you using the high vg juice?

Hi thanks for your reply, I'm using a 50/50 juice. By "gunk" I mean the charred outer layer of the coils. I'll dry burn the coils until it's silver again if that makes sense?

coil gunking/burning can be caused by several things or combination of things. Here are some of the reasons:
wattage to hi for coil size
thick juice
sweet and or dark juice
chainvaping
low quality juice

which of these does your juice/ vaping habits fall into ( catagory)

By Coil size do you mean resistance? or just the size in general?
My juices are sweet and I think I'm chain vaping. So yeah 2 categories down.

So basically, I should stop vaping sweet juices so often and cut down on the chain vaping.
It's pretty damn difficult cos the juice i'm vaping on is so delicious! Lol.

I have the same issue. If i'm not using TC my vape tastes burnt after a couple of days no matter what wattage i'm in. With temp control I vape for weeks and coil is fine. I vape at around 18 watts non TC.

Same situation here. I've got a Nickel build in the subtank mini and i've been going for about a week now without the burnt taste. For normal kanthal builds, no matter how low I hit it at, it just gives that burnt taste again and again. It's not a dry hit, but more of a hint of burnt taste.

Do you prime the coils well before first use? Often times neglecting to prime the coils properly will result in coils "burning out" more rapidly. Also, when you aee rebuilding coils, what sort of wick do you use? What type of rebuildable atomizer do you use? If its an RTA then you might need to be more precise with how it is wicked, if an RDA and you use cotton then if could be that you arent using enough juice and the wick is drying out and burning. Once the wick is burnt every draw you take will taste burnt.

I vape 6 ml of an amber liquid per day exclusively in rda's, mostly a Tugboat v2 clone. My Kanthal builds are 1.5 ohms, 15-20 watts. TC nickel builds are .15 ohms, 460-500 F, 30-40 max watts. In both instances I find I prefer a clean coil and fresh wick about every 24 to 36 hours. I find, when the the coil gets too gunked up the flavor and vapor quality decline.

Ha haha! Yeah. I'm a chain vaper and enjoy sweeter juice too. Sometimes I forget this was about quitting smoking and not about inhaling candy. On the upside, my ice cream consumption is way down!

At best I get a week on a prebuilt coil that others claim going a month. I even try to use "lighter" juice in the beginning and wait to use the known gunkers. And yes, the gunk contributes a "burnt" taste, that is different from burning wick.

3 days sounds about normal to me.

that's why I bought a 10pack of rba heads for my subtank.
swap out a fresh head every day or 2, and rewick/dryburn on sundays.
