I am new to e-cigs and have been vaping every day for the past 3 days.

Coincidentally, every night for the past 3 nights I have been developing a really dry mouth and sore throat.

The dryness and soreness seems to disappear during the day, but then comes right back at night again.

Is it just a coincidence that these symptoms started the day I started using an e-cig or is this a side effect of using an e-cig? If it's a side effect from using an e-cig, are there any tips to avoid it?

Probably is from ecig GS. You need to be drinking extra water throughout the day and evening to compensate your body while vaping. Are you using a PG based eliquid or iis it VG. You might consider changing to the other if you find this persists and there is also the fact that you are new to vaping and your body needs to(get use) to the new substances you are inhaling. Let me mention also that flavorings can also play a part in some degree symptions you describe.. There are many vendors that sell eliquids. Check some out that have all VG based liquids. These seem to be easier on the throat and not so harsh as PG based.
Avejuice.com has some all VG based liquids. Goodprophets.com also has a line of VG juice. Good luck and Im sure things will improve.

I can vouch for keeping hydrated. I was initially fine on e-cigs, but about a week in I started getting quite uncomfortable irritated throat, then sore inner cheek and tongue. Since I've given up smoking I'm generally needing to hydrate more it seems, and with vaping I find that I need to have a big old glass of water to hand, and I've knocked the coffee and tea right back to an occasional thing rather than virtually my only means of hydrating as before lol.
