I am new here, been using my 510 for 3 days, no analogs, no real desire. This place seems very nice, with a lot of smart cats.

So, I was thinking about my cold heat soldering iron, if it is possible to use components from it, to make a completely custom pv?

I know the laser pointer uses other atomizers, but with the cold heat soldering iron, it has that element or whatever, that heats up super high instantly, then cools nearly instantly when you let off the button and it reminds me of what I would guess a pv does.

Any thoughts? Could it work? I know my local Radio Shack had their cold heats on sale last time, for 4.99.

Thanks, and glad to be here!

Do a search for cold heat soldering Iron....I got excited by the same idea but once I got really involved I realised it wasn't a good idea at all.......but you can 'easily' convert the cold heat soldering iron into an e-cig using the atty of your own choice. It is a brilliant mod, it works so great I am not bothering to make any more mods. It's almost a ready made e-cig with the wiring all in place.

Hey Burnie ...if you do mod a cold heat soldering Iron can you do a tutorial?.....I am no good at doing those and I really think it should have a tutorial because it's such a brilliant thing to mod.

Pete--how big it that soldering Iorn and what is the power output to the atomizer? Thanks in advance.

Hi Sun ....:) I am using four 1.2 volt 2000mah AA NiMah rechargeable batteries....they charge to 1.42 volts each so a total of 5.68 volts fully charged ....but you can use it with 3 and a dummy which gives 4.26 volts fully charged. ....either way it works great but I favour the 5.68 volts best. .....It doesn't seem to matter if I use 3 or 4 batteries they vape about 8 ml of juice before needing changing which is about 2 days for me........I luv it. .......that's a TW penstyle 801 that I am using in the picture so that should give an idea of how big it is.

Thanks Pete--that is a lot of vaping time at a nice voltage range. Are you using Lithum or Ni-cad rechargables?

Don't see why not, but right now it is just another idea, still have to get parts.

I think I might have been adding the NiMah while you were posting sun..lol
there is some kind of current control electronic computer chip built into the Iron....I left it in but don't ask me what it actually does. It works great though. By the way if anyone does mod one watch out because they also now do a bigger one that takes 6 (I think) AA size batteries....that would be far too big for a PV.

I have one of those. As a soldering iron it sucks. (my girlfriend is no longer allowed to buy me tools..) Looks like an easy to do mod. I'll give it a shot.

Lol I did try soldering with it just in case I preferred to keep it as a soldering Iron but like you say, it sucks as a soldering Iron.

Ok just ordered one off Ebay for $17.99. Coming from GA so it should not take that long. I will try to take pictures and a step by step for anyone interested. I will start a new thread for this.

Yeah, I bought 2 that my local wally world had on clearance. $9 a one. Woot
I paid too much 8-o
But I searched and the best I could find was $19.99 + freight, so I thought $12.99 + $5 shipping was good. Well it will still cost me under $20 for the mod as I am going to use Warp's RCA style on it.

I don't have any extra batt connectors so I pressed my atty to the terminals with the tip removed and it vapes like a champ. :D
That would work, but all my connectors are attached to RCA plugs, I love it, so this is how I will have to mod the iron. That is the only way it will work for me as I am SOLD HOOK LINE AND SINKER ON THE RCA CONNECTORS. Thanks Warp.

I got to mod this thing, hits like a champ. Here is the pre-mod vid. I hope you make yours first Burnie, because I might need some pointers.:D

"This is just a quick test that worked out very well. The coldheat had 3+ yo non-rechargable batts in it that it came with. It's been collecting dust ever since I got it and tried it out, yup, it sucks, no good. I saw a mod already completed and had to try it out." -from you tube post.
