I got to mod this thing, hits like a champ. Here is the pre-mod vid. I hope you make yours first Burnie, because I might need some pointers.:D
I am just an amature, but I'll help if I can. I want to put some pictures up of the process, but it will be a week or so, as I have to get it first.

pics would be very helpfull. I do't even want to use my 510 bats anymore, I keep two handing the CH and my 510 atty...at least this way I don't need to worry about the 2 way switch. lol:D:p:thumbs:
I haven't touched a 510 battery since I made my first box, and I have 10 manual batteries and 1 automatic 510 battery. I just use my boxes for all my vaping. This is just another toy, what I really am going to do is build something about the size of a 2xAA box, but regulated to 5v. I have batteries and boxes ordered from China, so when they get here there will be another thread of one of my mods. Dam this is addicting :w00t:

I read your 5v thread, very nice. I can't wait to mod my first pv.;)
The box mods are easy. I am progressing to other things that hold batteries, dam this is addicting. But just try it. My first was a 4xAAA box using 3 regular AAA batteries. The RCA connector looked like ..., but it worked. It is a progression, start simple, make mistakes, learn from them, move to the next level. It's just like a game to me. I hope to be on the level of some of the others some day, but I am happy with where I am at for now. Just keep dreaming of new ideas.

I got tired of using both hands, I taped my atty on with electrical tape and it rocks, I still need an adaptor but this works fine for now.;)

Hi hangtime great vid ...that's how mine hits all the time. I originaly left the slider switch in and switched it on and off with that but it didn't last for very long so I had to change it for a momentary button that I salvaged from an old stereo. I have to admit it was a bit of a pain working out how to fit it in the same place as the switch but I managed in the end. Oh and when you take it all apart, just in case you don't spot it there is a screw inside the battery compartment. I have considered writing to the manufacturers of this thing because it wouldn't cost them anything to turn the soldering Iron into a PV. and they could be selling a great PV at the same price they sell the soldering Iron.....it would make them a fortune and be the cheapest PV on the market and work just as good as any of the expensive ones.

What exactly is going to be needed to mod this baby so I can just screw in my Kissbox/801 attys?
I haven't seen one up close yet, mine is on order, but I would think just replace the tip with an 801 battery connector. I read a few post back about having to replace the switch also, I'm going to look at that when I get mine. I also plan to do pic's of it coming apart and going back together. Once I see it I also have a really different idea on something, if it is even possible, but I'll save that as I don't know if it will work.

Wow these are not terribly easy to find. I checked all the Radio Shack's in my area and they don't carry it anymore. I found a new one online through Amazon.com from a reseller for just under 20$ shipping included.

Seems there are some knockoffs by Coleman and other companies though, wonder if those work the same?

Amazon.com: ColdHeat Classic Soldering Tool: Home Improvement

That's the one I picked up, looks the same as what you guys are working with.

Here are a couple other units that need to be modded...

Hi hangtime......those wellers look like they could be brilliant especially the one with the high/low switch....the great thing is they look like they might actually already have a momentary button. Which would be excellent if even that part is already done for you.....it's only a matter of fitting an atty. The only worry would be if it's easy to take apart.
The other one only takes three aa size batteries which would work but it's nice to have the higher power option of four batteries.

Damn I am really tempted to buy one of those bp860 's now, it should work exactly the same as the cold heat soldering iron does and it would be handy to have a spare.

The heat up time won't matter after you take the soldering tip off and connect an atty. The cool thing will be having the choice of power from low to high if it works that way.

Yes ..although it's easy enough to have the choice of low to high power with the cold heat soldering iron, it's just a matter of using one dummy AA battery but there 'is' something cool about the idea of having it switch-able.
