So i was just gnna purchase a reo grand but decided to wait til the new contact upgrades to be standard (Hopefully soon). The colors im interested in are black wrinkle, silver vein, or silver hammer. My question is do any of these tarnish? Also the flat anodized textured colors scratch easily? Thanks alot

from what I've read or heard the Black wrinkle is one of the toughest finishes. It's the one I chose for my first one but it hasn't been through hell yet. I've heard the veins do tarnish a bit but hey it builds character hehe. I don't know that I'd say they scratch easily, as far as anodized goes, but I'm sure it will be more likely to scratch those vs the Black Wrinkle. I'm sure you'll get tons more info, just figured I'd start it off for ya

Copper and Silver Vein will darken to almost black with use.

Black Wrinkle and Hammertone are both great finishes and will stand up to lots of wear.

The anodized is a whole different finish. The anodized color becomes part of the aluminum. When metal REO's were first made the anodizing was all that was offered. I have a lot of them. Hard drops and gouges will show but they do stand up well to use.

The Tumbled Raw Aluminum won't show fine scratches much at all. Even larger scratches just kind of blend in.

I have 1 OG Mini in Anodized Blue and it has been around the block about a million times and was previously owned when it was graciously passed to me by a fellow Reonaut. Considering all of that it has scratches - but they are fairly minimal and I wouldnt see that as being "easily" scratched for sure. This one has been a work horse to several folks and still looks pretty darn great.

I also have a Grand that is Black Gloss with a Red Metallic door, I managed a tiny scratch from one of my rings in the black gloss that you can *barely* see and I have dropped it and all sorts of things (no matter how careful I am - I may possibly be the *clumsiest* human in the history of ever)

And I got the SO a Raw Tumbled Alum Grand and its pretty much mar proof.

Im fairly certain that regular baths will also help prevent tarnishing and such as well. (beauty of a Reo - you can literally bathe it :D)

Hope this all helps a smidge!

I've got two black wrinkles; one with a silver vein door and one with a copper vein door.

The copper vein has darkened. The silver vein hasn't, or I haven't noticed it. lol

The silver vein isn't really silver though. It looks black, but when the light hits it at an angle or you take it outdoors it reflects kind of silver. It's hard to explain, it's pretty neat IMO.

Cheers.

I have been reading up on them myself lately. I have never read where the finish tarnishes. Maybe chips with accidents. I think they are neat and I wish you well. From what I have read....you will be a happy vaperer. :)
without a doubt the copper vein will darken unless you clear coat it when new.

Thx to all for the godlike responses. now on to my last question. Anyone ever tried using clear guard from car bumpers on their reo's? Im pretty .... sadly at wear and tear as you can see lol. Looking to get a custom clear guard wrap that to it all around the reo but not sure it will stick well with the texture. Im sure it would work well on the anodize or flat finishes. Thanks again.

Definitely.. I have a black wrinkle with sliver hammer tone door. It's my work mod and the black wrinkle has quiet a few beauty marks but, the door is still flawless.

Here are silver hammertone and black wrinkle with the doors swapped. They are both very durable finishes IMO. Not a mark is visible on the HT. The BW does show a few light scuffs if you hold it the right way but nothing obvious :)

Yup hammertone is super...love the finish and the feel in the hand.

Btw im wondering how the anodized blue looks like if there is any. Does it look like the Hana mod blue? That would look sleek with a Reo engraving.
