Hey guys, awesome site here very helpful. Tried skimming through here for some certain questions but theres just so many threads!(which is good)

I just got an eGo-t and have some random questions.

1. When I am sleeping is it best to take it apart or leave it alone? (Heard mixed things)
2. How often should I clean the atomizer?
3. I heard the 18mg isn't considered to be medium but more strong. Thoughts?
4. Any ex half a pack smokers a day out there? How much cartridges do you go through a day?

Wasn't kidding when I said random!

Thanks!

#1 - I put one batt on charger, and the other is usually in my hand! I hadn't heard of disassembling it at night? I wake up looking for it and hoping I didn't lay on the button! hahahaha!
#4 - I haven't quit analogs completly yet and I suppose I'm a PAD or more, but since I started vaping that's dropped off and I use about 2 tanks a day
#3 - nic strength hasn't been easy for me because it seems each is different in different flavors from different vendors. If that makes sense. I originally went with 24mg and hated it, but I think it was the flavor/vendor more that I didn't like. I then ordered 12mg and I love the juice but I still crave analogs...they say eventually you find your "sweet spot" so I guess it takes some tinkering!
#2 - I'm not into taking these things apart, so far I've only blown out my atty.
You think you're random? I can't even answer in order! :)

1. When I am sleeping is it best to take it apart or leave it alone? (Heard mixed things)

I think you are supposed to take it apart, blow out the atomizer and leave it standing upright on a paper towel every night. Right, like that's going to happen! I'm with atchungbaby, hoping I didn't lose it in my sheets.

2. How often should I clean the atomizer?

I think the factory recommendation is blowing it out into a paper towel daily and not doing any kind of soaking/cleaning. but many people still do clean them in some kind of soak (alcohol, vodka, hot water) at least once a week - I don't, it's just too fussy IMO and I've never had any problems.

3. I heard the 18mg isn't considered to be medium but more strong. Thoughts?

nah, that's medium. IN MY OPINION: 0 to 14 is low, 16 to 20 is medium, over 24 is high (notice the gaps? it's a grey area)

4. Any ex half a pack smokers a day out there? How much cartridges do you go through a day?

You won't know how much you'll end up using, despite any math you may be trying to use.. there's just no way to know until you try it.... most people used to smoke about a pack to a pack and a half and use about 3ml per day. You'll probably go through about 2ml (4 carts), if I had to guess.

Take it apart, blow it out and put it battery side up on a paper towel.
2. How often should I clean the atomizer?
Refer to answer # 1.
3. I heard the 18mg isn't considered to be medium but more strong. Thoughts?
I use 30mg but I smoked a pack & a half a day of full flavor analogs.
4. Any ex half a pack smokers a day out there? How much cartridges do you go through a day?
I use about 3 tanks a day.
I hope this was a little helpfull.

Nicotine level meanings are also somewhat individual depending on how much you vape, how big your drags are, etc. Someone taking small drags of 24mg might get less nicotine than someone taking big drags of 18mg. Someone who vapes about as much as they smoke will be getting less nicotine than someone who vapes constantly etc.

This is the best information i've found on nicotine density:
One of the most common questions about an electric cig relates to which e-liquid nicotine strength is equivalent to a particular kind of cigarette that a person smokes. To better answer this question, it is better to understand how much nicotine is contained in the E-Liquid you are inhaling.

We define the density of nicotine inside E-Liquid as the followings:

- Non nicotine: 0 mg nicotine, which equivalents to No Nicotine.
- Low density: 6 mg nicotine, which equivalents to Ultra Light Strength Cigarettes.
- Medium density: 12 mg nicotine, which equivalents to Medium Strength Cigarettes.
- High density: 18 mg nicotine, which equivalents to Regular Strength Cigarettes.
- XHigh density: 24 mg nicotine, which equivalents to Strong Cigarettes.
- XXHigh density: 36 mg nicotine, which equivalents to Very Strong Cigarettes.
- XXXHigh density: 48 mg nicotine, which equivalents to Super Strong Cigarettes.

The nicotine density listed for e-liquid is the number of milligrams of nicotine per milliliter in the E-Liquid. That means a 10ml bottle of 24mg nicotine e-liquid would have 240mg of nicotine in it (24mg x 10ml). Likewise, a 30ml bottle of 24mg e-liquid would have 720mg of nicotine in it (24mg x 30ml).

Different brands of cigarettes vary in terms of their nicotine content. Normally nicotine constitutes approximately 0.6-3.0% of dry weight of tobacco in a cigarette. Obviously a longer 100ml cigarette has more nicotine in it than a standard or king size 84ml cigarette. For the most part, though, here is, for example, the amount of nicotine that is in a typical 84ml tobacco cigarette:

If you smoke Regular cigarettes, like a Marlboro Red, for instance, there are approximately 1.2mg of nicotine in each cigarette, or 24mg of nicotine per pack (1.2mg x 20 cigarettes).

If you smoke Light cigarettes, like a Marlboro Light, for instance, there are approximately 0.7mg of nicotine in each cigarette, or 14mg of nicotine per pack (0.7mg x 20 cigarettes).

If you smoke Ultra Light cigarettes, like a Marlboro Ultra Light, for instance, there are approximately 0.5mg of nicotine in each cigarette, or 10mg of nicotine per pack (0.5mg x 20 cigarettes).

When you refill your e-cartridges with e-liquid, you may need to know how much nicotine is contained in your refilling e-liquid. There are approximately 20 drops of e-liquid per milliliter. So, using our 24mg nicotine e-liquid once again as an example, there would be 1.2mg of nicotine per drop (24mg/20 drops). So, if you put three drops of e-liquid onto a e-cartridge (or directly onto the atomizer for those of you that direct-drip), that means you will be taking in 3.6mg of nicotine from the time you start vaping until you top off again.

The amount as well as the feeling of the nicotine absorbed by the body from electronic cigarette smoking depends on many factors, including the density of the nicotine in e-liquid, the eclectronic cigarette vaporing quantity, the smoking frequency and timing, and the smoking inhaling respiration.

Actually the nicotine in the E-Liquid can not be absorbed completely by the smoker. For instance, if you inhale 1 ml of E-Liquid which contains 24 mg of nicotine, that does not mean that you absorb all the 24 mg of nicotine. You may only absorb about 50-80% of the nicotine according to your personal smoking habit.

It should be noted that, although it is highly addictive, no studies have shown nicotine to be a carcinogen. It is simply the fix that cigarette smokers crave. It is recommended that those who have a demonstrated sensitivity to nicotine, are pregnant or breastfeeding or who have unstable heart conditions, should discuss the use of any E-Liquid with a doctor before using.

Dont ever be sorry… love it when other new folks post!

1. When I am sleeping is it best to take it apart or leave it alone? (Heard mixed things)

I learned to draw more lightly and longer to vape, and my unit no longer floods or leaks... so I leave the unit assembled

2. How often should I clean the atomizer?

I only clean mine now when there is something wrong, I no longer clean them just for the sake of cleaning them. Going on week 4 now with both atomizers, I have had to push the wick down a 1/16th of an inch on one atomizer because of a burnt taste, but other than that... I am just using them until something goes wrong... nothing else has yet.

3. I heard the 18mg isn't considered to be medium but more strong. Thoughts?

I use 24mg, but I was a pack a day smoker... use what works for you, I am starting to lower my nicotine level now ( stuff to do so is in the mail )

4. Any ex half a pack smokers a day out there? How much cartridges do you go through a day?

I was a pack a day smoker, and I go through between 2 and 3 tanks a day ( filled 5/6ths always leave an air pocket at the top )

Your mileage may vary, I wouldn’t worry about the amount you are vaping too much ( like I did last week ), right now the goal is to get off cigarettes, save lowering the nicotine level and how often you vape for later... right now, concentrate on goal #1

1. When I am sleeping is it best to take it apart or leave it alone? (Heard mixed things)

I found it stressful and disruptive to take my ecigs apart before bed and to not have them ready-to-vape as soon as I got up. I bought extra batteries and leave my ecigs set up overnight. Mine are slim ecigs. A 510 mega xl battery will stay charged overnight and still give plenty of vaping in the morning. If you have any standard resistance 510 attys or cartomizers you could also use them on 510 or 510 mega xl (needs their own charger though - Ego charger can fry the slim batteries)

2. How often should I clean the atomizer?

Some say never. I could notice a drop in performance and taste by the end of the week. I have 3 attys - 2 I alternate (use one while cleaning/drying one), and 1 total spare. I would clean one every weekend when I was mostly using atomizers. Now I mostly use cartomizers.

3. I heard the 18mg isn't considered to be medium but more strong. Thoughts?

I consider it medium. It's the amount of nicotine in a pack of lights. If a seller doesn't sell 24 or wants to call 24 Extra High, then they call 18 high. They are just making it up anyway.
I consider...
6 - extra low
10-12 - low
16-18 - medium (I smoked lights and this is what I started on)
24 - high
30+ - extra high

It doesn't really matter what it's called. Go by the mg, not by the name

4. Any ex half a pack smokers a day out there? How much cartridges do you go through a day?

I was a 1.5-2 PAD smoker and I am still using my original cartridge on my first ecig. I replaced the stuffing with blue foam and I am still using it. Ditto on the 306 cart and atty I use on 510. The first cart.

If you mean cartomizers? I get at least a week out of a cartomizer (alternating 2 and adding a bit of juice whenever the vapor seems light). I actually got a month out of one 510 Boge soft-cap (using it 1/2 the time) - I had to straighten the center air channel a couple of times but it worked great.

I don't agree with the "subjective" description of nicotine levels in Descente's post. Due to the fact, as mentioned later down in the post, that the effectiveness of nicotine delivery is far less in vaping vs smoking, 18mg is medium for sure, IMO.

Agreed. Pretty happy the delivery of the nicotine is far less in vaping. At the beggining im like woowww I'm taking in way too much nicotine.

I was a 2 pack a day smoker, sometimes even more. I'm vaping at 24mg pretty much non-stop while I'm awake. My old brand was Camel Lights 99s....not the strongest out there by far, but hardly a weak cigarette either. Less nicotine received through vapor is what I keep reading, so I can justify my endless vaping that way. The truth is I'm just in love with this too much right now to worry about it. The fact that I haven't had an analog in 8 days is such an amazing thing I just can't worry too much about it. Am I missing my fix? Less every day. To me it's irrelevant. Happiest I've been in years. Isn't that what REALLY matters?

Hi Wayne,

I'm also new to e-cigs and I was a half pack/day smoker. Got my ego on Friday and haven't touched my analogs yet.

I smoked Marlboro Menthol 100's (or lights but always menthol) and although 24mg might sound too high (it did for me, when I was in the 'searching' process), it is working fine for now. I already ordered 18mg of e-juice just to see if it makes any difference, but I guess it won't.

Now, I don't know how much you will vape and any assumption is an... assumption >.> I tried to figure it out for myself what I would need, searched in this forum for weeks before ordering, but even then the results were different than what I expected til now. For example, after using/refilling a couple of carts for 1 and 1/2 day, I decided to try the XL carto for my ego so I prepared everything for Sunday. I filled 1.8ml (24mg) in the carto and believe it or not, I still have some juice in it. I did not vape anything but the same carto from Sunday afternoon to an hour ago. So go figure, I'm vaping less than 1ml/day FOR NOW. Things might change once I get all the e-juice I've been ordering during the last couple of days >.< lol

In any case, good luck!
