Hi ya, completely new to E-Cigs, but hoping to gain enough knowledge here to make my start into it a good one. Not to mention aiding in my effort to quit regular tobacco... I'm really hoping these work as an effective proxy to aid in quitting smoking. Started about '75 and tried to quit numerous times ( both cold and w/ the gum ) but it just never panned out. Fingers crossed, this will work for me.

Just ordered my battery, an Innokin MVP 2 that apparently come w/ an iClear 30 and ordered a couple of replacement heads for it. A Kanger ProTank 2 , and ordered 2 x-tra replacement coils for it @ 2.2 Ohms. A couple of 30ml bottles of juice (coffee & vanilla) and a couple of 10 ml needle bottles to get started with. I'm hoping that I made some decent choices so-far, seems real easy to go overboard real fast buying equipment, LOL.

Now I just need to start looking to see if I can find some answers to a few ?'s here in the forum, LoL. Need to figure out all kinds of things... Which voltage / watts to start with, prep & cleaning, lifespan of the equipment / parts, how long juice usually lasts...( I'm down to a pack of Camel / Bugler a week now btw... down from 3 packs a day!)

Anyhoo, Thanks all, and any info/input/suggestions would be appreciated. I'm hoping by New Year's I can sit and drink a homebrew w/o having to smoke a regular cigarette or a bowel of bugler.

Excellent choices sowien, you are off to a great start equipment wise to do vaping right

I suggest setting your MVP2 in the wattage mode and remember that you may need to use a different wattage setting depending on what eliquid and/or tank you are using to get optimum taste (I chase taste, not clouds) coffee flavor in my opinion is a touchy eliquid and quite often has a burnt taste at my normal wattage (just my opinion, though, flavor is subjective and there is no "THIS IS THE ONLY WAY" way of doing things when it comes to vaping)

Hi Sowein, welcome to ECF.

It looks like you have quite a good set of gear to use. I'm going to guess some research was involved before purchase ...

As to your questions, lets start with settings. The absolute best advice I can give you is to experiment. All juices will be different, but *most* will fall within a *normal* range for what you personally prefer. The easiest way to find the best settings would be to set the device low (either VV or VW) and SLOWLY increase it in single increments to try. When you get to the point that you really like what is coming out of it, OR it starts to taste "burnt", stop adjusting upwards, and pick the settings you tried that were the "best".

The typical lifespan of the equipment is hard to predict, a lot of it depends on maintenance, vaping habits, and a little luck. I've had brand new equipment fail within 3 days due to defective manufacturing tolerances, and I have stuff that I bought when I started vaping that is still going strong. Hard to predict how long gear will last. Protank coils are a little easier to predict, they *generally* tend to last me 2-3 weeks between cleanings and I can get 2-4 cleanings out of each one before they are completely shot. I don't have an iClear yet, so can't even guesstimate what that will look like. Juice is going to depend on how much you vape a day. I go through 3-4 tanks full a day, using PT 2 tanks. This gives me roughly 8 days for about a 50ml bottle, but again, this is personal and based on your habits, so YMMV.

Good luck, I have faith that New Years will be tobacco free!

Hey Sowien I'm still using my eGo 1000mah Passthroughs.I have no use for VV Mods as they are way to complicated for me.I get great vapor from those using Cartomizers or Clearomizers with the standard 3.3V or in the 4.14 to 3.6V mode.I have confidence that you will never want to smoke a cig again.Try one after a month of vaping and you will see why. Those things have a very nasty taste after you get use to the smooth taste of vapor.

Hi, And thank you Dev

Aye, My daughter is the one that actually got me started thinking about going to vaping. At her school (AI) there's no smoking on campus so she occasionally smokes the E-Blu cigs on class days in "secluded areas"....Wasn't an issue at first but now they put the ban on E-Cigs too.

Long story short though, I tried her E-Blu's and they were just completely lacking.... maybe because I've smoked for so long. She suggested trying a different delivery method and rattled off a few of the batteries and tanks her friends used. Well, after about a week of looking at sights online and listening / watching U-Tube, I came to my current selection in equip. I must admit, I was amazed at the selection (and the expense) that I could rack up in just a half hour on a wish-list, sooo many nice looking toys out there, LoL. That's when I decided on 1 site based on price first and then availability (LiteCigUsa) and set a $150.00 cap for myself. Realisticly, I guess it's like everything else.....Speed is just a question of $...... How fast do you want to go? The PT2 choice was primarily based on the pyrex globe and ease of changing coils as needed....The MVP 2 was a little more difficult to nail down. I saw all kind of set-up that were pretty nifty...I knew I may want to invest in an RBA later on down the line... Not as extreme pricewise as Russian91% but maybe something like an AGA - T+..... Either way I figured I might as well get something that could check the resistance if I ever did, that and have a pretty good battery life, and control the volt.
On average, I probably smoke 3-5 hits on my pipe (w/bugler) every couple of hours. How that's going to translate into juice usage, I have no earthly idea LoL. Wish I knew what the actual nicotine lvls were, if nothing else, just to have a "base-line" or comparison. The liquid I ordered is all 24mg so I guess I'll just have to play it by ear so to speak. I was thinking it'd be less expensive to just start out with a higher nicotine lvl and smoke less than to try buying several of the the 6 mg bottles and find I'm burning through it much faster than expected.

You've chosen great gear with the MVP and the two types of clearomizers. The next step will be finding a juice flavor that you will enjoy using throughout the day. The 24 mg of your current juice should be fine initially. Focus on quitting smoking completely, and then you can gradually wean yourself down to lower nic levels.

Preference in flavors is extremely subjective. You may find you need to try a dozen before you find two that you really like enough to buy more of.

You Tube can be a great resource of information on how to clean your tanks and replace the coil heads in your clearomizers.

Thank you Dakota:)

Cool, so I have the option of setting my MVP to vape according to Watts as opposed to Volt. Cool, Will it make a difference in performance? If I can, Ide opt for better flavor / longer battery life over vapor cloud size.

Variable voltage and variable power (wattage) are just two different ways to get to the same spot. Whichever you find to be the easiest for you you should use that.

For myself, I'd rather use variable voltage. Just take the ohm's resistance of your heating coil and add "2" and you'll find a good ballpark number for your voltage, and adjust up or down to suit your taste. For example, if your clearomizer is 2.0 ohms, add the number "two". 2 ohm + 2 = 4 volts.

Hi sowien and welcome to ECF. Great choice with the MVP2 and the protank. I have both and love them. You will need a second battery to use while the MVP2 is charging and in case you lose the main device. The saying around here is 'backups for your backups' and it is true. One day I found myself having 2 batteries needing to be charged at the same time and I had nothing to vape on for a couple of hours. I was fine for that amount of time, but since it was in the early days of my not smoking every fiber of my being wanted a cigarette. If I had had that backup battery I could have saved myself some mental agony. Same holds true with the toppers. Always have extra everything. You can always run down to the convenience store and pick up a Blu, but think how long it would take to order and wait for something you need NOW.

If you look under my avatar you will see Blog Entries. Click there and I wrote a short post with links to info that may help you out starting like tank cracking juices and top 5 vendors for juice. Also go back to Baditudes post to you and check out his blogs. He is a resident expert here and has written some very informative and technical stuff on batteries and cartos and other need to know vaping things. Sounds like you will do just fine here. Don't be afraid to ask questions. I do suggest that you order some small sample bottles of different flavors from a few different vendors and in lower nicotine strengths so you don't get stuck in your first few days with only two flavors and too high nic juice. Best to be prepared. Good luck to you.

New guy brings the doughnuts..its a rule. You has to.

Look in my blog post (at the first one about Kanger heads) and there is a link to RiP Trippers long video about rebuilding Kanger heads.

Kanger heads are ok for a few days, then can get gunked up if you use sweet stuff to vape (I do, cuz Im sweet...no rry).

Anyways, they can get gummed up and then suddenly you are not tasting anything or your taste is just..well, crap.

So, take some time to learn about how to fix em up and the vapes are LOADS nicer. Way Way nicer vapor production and flavor.

Vaping is a means to allow you to take in the nic your body craves but at the same time reduce the harm that tobacco smoke can cause. Its just unreal how much junk is in smoke, its a LONG list of poisons basically.

So, for a bit you will be vaping it up but you can cut back or just stop tobacco completely, its up to how you feel.

As others said above, there is really no one way to do all this, its a lot of different methods that have been successful for folks and it does indeed work. I got some gear, loaded up on some small bottles of 24mg juice, and then was happily vaping away. Then I got lower nic juices, 18 and then 12mg nicotine.

But like I said, I crapped out my wicks/coils in a few days so then I was ordering Kanthal wire and silica wick. Now I use cotton as a wick, its cheap (like me) and if it tastes like crap, out it goes - then rinse coils, dry the metal, dry burn em gently, rinse again, dry, then dry burn...then put in new cotton, prime it with juice...you get the picture.

It beats cigs in another means too: you get to tinker and that seems to take your mind off tobacco..it does for me anyway.

DO..absolutely do find decent juices you enjoy. We have long threads here about who likes what vendor, and I found some places that sell juices and I tried about a dozen bottles so far. Ive been happy with what Ive picked up.

Matter of fact I think I need to order a couple more bottles this week, just to add to the pile - I maybe use 2-3ml of juice a day.

Later I will experiment with DIY juice. ....carefully..ha ha. And it doesnt even need to have nic in it.
