I just brought a smok Nord 4. The kit came with 2 coils; a .16 Ohm coil and a .6 Ohm coil. BUT, when I look online it says that I am supposed to receive a .6 Ohm coil and a 1.4 Ohm coil. The reason this matters is because I am trying to quit smoking and want to use Nicotine Salts. From reading Online they say I need a 1 Ohm to 1.4 Ohm Coil, for best results when using g Nicotine Salts. Can someone please help clarify whether I need to buy a different Coil to use nicotine Salts. Or am I missing something? This is getting Mad frustrating... I just want to Vape.

Hi and Welcome,
What is the nicotine level of the liquid you have?
How long did you smoke and how many per day?

Where are you located?

Cheers
I
Hi Izan,
I have 13 mg nicotine in a Kool flavor eJuice , that I use in the RPM .4 Ohm coil. And I have a 30mg Nicotine salt in a Apple flavor that I put in the RpM2 .16Ohm coil. I Want to mouth to lung vape because I'm trying to stop smoking. I smoke about 15 cigarettes a day Kool Menthol 100s. I have been smoking for years.

Those coils only come in three ohms 0.6, 0.8, and 1.4. There are variations of those but all the Smok nord coils are one of those 3 ohms. How did you come to the conclusion you had a 0.16 coil? Is that what the mod is reading? How does that coil vape? You could have a defective coil.

Nope, according to smok, what you got with your Nord 4 is exactly what you were supposed to get - one 0.4 coil and one 0.16 coil.

Whomever you bought it from, or whatever source you are referencing, is referencing old data from the original Nord pod kit (version 1) which came with a 0.6 and 1.4 coil. Retailers are often very lazy and cannot be trusted for specifications. Some just copy data without regard for accuracy. Fasttech, however, does show that the original Nord came with 0.6 and 1.4 coils. This is also verified at Smok's online store

The biggest difference between the coils you would generally use for nic salts and normal nicotine is airflow, and how much liquid they vaporize at once. Nic salts being usually higher nicotine strength, you want a smaller drag, small cloud, mouth to lung like smoking a cigarette. That would generally use a coil with higher resistance at low wattage, that doesn't allow a lot of air through it for a tighter drag.
That being said, if you can restrict airflow and turn down wattage you might be able to get the same result from other coils designed for more airflow.
The only reason to not use nic salts in any old coil is that you may get more nicotine than you want from an airier coil.

Because that is what it says on package it comes in. The Kit Includes (I Quote)
    1x nord 4 Device (2000mAh)
    1x nord 4 RPM 2 Pod(RPM 2 Mesh 0.16 Ohm Coil Preinstalled) (4.5ml)
1x nord 4 RPM Pod (RPM Mesh 0.4 Ohm Coil Preinstalled) (4.5ml)
    1x Type-C Cable
    1x User Manual

In your place, I would use the 13mg/ml (up to about 20mg/ml) for either coil. If the vape is harsh on your throat, remember that the nicotine absorbs just fine through the mucus membranes in your mouth and nose. An inhale is not required. Pull, swish, pause and blow out.
If you can get a 1.4Ω coil then I would suggest the 30mg/ml, or greater, liquid.

    Congrats on making the switch!
The effort is worth the reward!

    Keep up the good work!

Pro tip: Count the cigarettes you DO NOT smoke. Don't dwell on the one, two or few that are the hardest to walk away from. Be gentle with yourself!

So , in reference to the 13 - 20mgs... are we talking about nicotine salt or eliquids with nicotine

So, are you suggesting 13-20 mg/ml nicotine for regular eliquids and the 30mg/ml is referring to nicotine salts to be used with a 1.4 Ohm setup. Am I following correctly?

As noted below, yes. Any device can use any type of nicotine as long as the strength (mg/ml) is appropriate for the resistance. (Ω)
Sub ohm coils will make more vapor and thus deliver more nicotine.

I started with 24mg/ml freebase using 2012 technology.
Using a current pod system (vaporesso Podstick 1.3Ω) I fill it with 25mg/ml freebase to get the kick I need.
Daily, I use 5mg/ml freebase in my bottom feeder (.6Ω) and vape about 12-15ml average per day.

Find a comfortable nicotine level that keeps the monkey quiet but also allows you to vape as often as needed.

I just want to emphasize this. Despite what you read online, you can use both nicotine salts and regular (freebase) nicotine in any device.

You'll read a lot about salts being for higher resistance (ohm) coils and freebase for lower resistance. This is a generalization, not a rule. Basically, salts were developed for low powered, high resistance devices. They don't vapourize much juice at a time, so you need more nicotine in the juice. Salts were designed to have less throat hit so they could be used in higher concentrations without being too harsh. However, there's nothing stopping someone from using lower concentration salt nic with a high powered, low resistance coil. The only thing stopping you from using high concentration nic in a high powered, low resistance device is that you'll get more nicotine than you want.

@Izan's advice on the juice sounds good to me, so listen to him and you should be fine.

I'll add a few tips on finding the right nicotine level:
    • The right concentration of nicotine is whatever works for you.
    • If you're still craving nicotine despite vaping, use a higher nicotine level (OK, that one was pretty obvious).
    • If the throat hit (that catch in your throat when you inhale nicotine) is too strong, either lower your nicotine or, if you're using freebase, try salts
    • If your nicotine level is too high for your needs, you may get "nic sick". It's not really dangerous at this level, but it does make you miserable. Common symptoms are nausea, dizziness, tiredness and headache. Some people even get the hiccups as an early warning sign. Hold off on the vaping and lie down if you can and you should feel better within about 20 minutes. Before you pick up the vape again, make sure you're using less nicotine or at least vaping somewhat less.

Welcome to ECF, and good luck switching! Confusion and frustration are common enough when you're starting out, so don't hesitate to ask more questions if there's anything we can do to help.

ETA: About the coils in the contents list - SMOK isn't known for their quality control. They may have failed to update their boxes properly or just decided to use up a stash of outdated materials they had on hand.

Basically, salts were developed for low powered, high resistance devices.

Specifically, for JUUL. They used 59 mg/ml eliquids because the device was tiny, underpowered and produced very little vapor.
Salts were designed to have less throat hit so they could be used in higher concentrations without being too harsh.

Yup. I bought my first salt eliquid from Halo (Menthol Ice) at 50 mg/ml. Even in my Minifit pod it was way too much for me. So I kept diluting it and diluting it until I went all the way down to my preferred 12 mg/ml. :)

The nicotine concentration in salts and freebase is the same. 20 mg/ml is 20mg/ml. You can mix your salts down to any strength you're comfortable with. Rule of thumb: if you're an MTL vaper (low wattage, moderate vapor)--you'll need more nic; if you're a DTL vaper (higher wattage, exotic coils, more vapor)--use lower concentrations.

There has been some speculation that salt nic is better and faster absorbed in the lungs, more like tobacco smoke, while freebase is mainly absorbed via mucous membranes in your mouth and nose. The jury is still out, afaik. All I know for sure is that salts do feel a bit different than freebase--but not by much.
