Hi peeps.
I recently purchased my first e-cig which is the itaste vv vw v3.0. The unit seems to be ok and does what it's supposed to do but when I take a drag it's sore on the throat. The liquid is 10mg tobacco/caramel which is actually quite a pleasant taste but can't drag it without having to blow out 90 % of the vape before inhaling. Maybe I set up the unit wrong or the liquid is too strong for me. When smoking analogues my brand was silk cut ultra/silver. Any suggestions welcome.

Hi and welcome to ECF. Have you tried turning the voltage or wattage down? Try starting at a low voltage/ wattage and slowly turn it up until you hit your sweet spot.
What juice holder are you using and what ohms is it?
Here's a chart with notes that gives a "general" idea:

I agree about keeping the voltage/wattage low at first. Even the pg/vg ratio to a point.

However, if this is your first experience with vaping, realize that many novices experience the same thing you are with a sensation of harshness to the throat, often to the point of causing coughing. Warm or hot vapor can be something that our throat/lungs have to adapt to.

If you recall when you first started smoking, the smoke likely caused you to cough or felt harsh to your throat/lungs. You quickly got over that as your body adapted. The same will be true with vapor.

Understand you don't have to inhale the vapor to absorb the nicotine within it. The nicotine in vapor is absorbed almost entirely from the membranes of your mouth, nose, and throat, not so much if any in the lungs. Therefore, a mouth inhale technique works best. Imagine sucking on a straw in a thick milkshake. Gentle, slow, long inhale of 4 - 6 seconds into the mouth, hold temporarily.

You may now either inhale some of that into your lungs, or alternatively blow all of it out through both your mouth and nose. You will absorb the nicotine from either method. As your body adapts to the vapor, you can gradually learn to inhale more of the vapor into your lungs much like when you were smoking.

Blowing some of the vapor out through your nose may help you to experience more of the flavor of your vapor, as our sense of smell greatly assists our perception of flavors.

Also be sure to drink plenty of water when you vape. The pg/vg in the e-liquid is drying to mucous membranes and could lead to some dehydration. Dry mouth can also mute your ability to taste flavors.

Voltage /wattage at lowest, holder is iclear 16. Not sure what ratio the juice is. How do I find this out?

It may well be your juice. The Vendor (do you have a website?) would know.
Juice Components
Flavoring usually about 3- 15%- could be higher or lower depending on the flavor used.
PG enhances flavor, TH and lung hit- water like - many of us believe PG to be a throat irritant.
VG= vapor and can mute flavor- thick
Nicotine- TH, lung hit and our need for nicotine. The MOST important ingredient in regards to TH and lung hit.
Standards in the industry are 80/ 20 or 70/ 30 PG/ VG. Many are moving towards a 50/ 50 ratio as it's a less harsh and smoother vape.

I had the same thing I guess, only I coughed my fool head off. If you have a local shop that mixes their own juice, get over there and find a flavor you like and get a pure VG juice. That did the trick for me, maybe for you too. After a couple of weeks I was able to go to a more conventional mix of VG/PG.
Good luck on your vaping journey!!

Baditude once again for the win.

I would add that the iClear is a top coil design, which will result in a "warmer" vape. You could try a bottom coil design, such as the Protank 2 or the EVOD, which moves the coil to the bottom, giving the vapor a chance to cool as you inhale, resulting in a cooler vape. It may be that part of the harshness you are experiencing is from the warmer temperature of the vapor (and it may not).

It may well be your juice. The Vendor (do you have a website?) would know.

Vapoor eyes er hits the nail on the head with regards to PG/VG/Nic levels. I would also suggest trying juices that contain more VG and less PG in the mixture ratio. Perhaps a 50/50 mix, but this will be trial and error. It will also be affected by the nicotine content as well. The higher the nicotine the harsher the hit, but again, it is not the only factor.

To determine your current juice ratio, you can try reading the label on the bottle, many places put it right on the label. If it isn't listed on the label, then contact the place you got it and ask them what it is. Once you have that info, you can start adjusting to see what works best for you.

As always ... YMMV!

I didn't know most was absorbed through the mouth & throat. You sure about that?
