Hi all!
I'm a 69 year old man, and still reeling from the official crash of my lungs on my birthday a year ago. Worst breathlessness I've ever known. After 6 days inside, on Prednisone and Antibiotic IV, I though that I would now resume being the dashing singer/ guitarist I had been for 50 years prior.
FUGGETABOUTIT. Am now on my second course of the same meds. due to back to back episodes.

Since then, I've had to make friend with terms like 'flareups', exacerbations', 'progression of the disease', and' accept it'.
Who me? is the question that flits across my consciousness, but the answer, sadly is 'yes, you, twerp'! 55 years of chain smoking, the last twenty filled with roll ups and the crazy search for good fresh tobacco, papers, filters, rolling machines, and the horror of ash everywhere, in the car, under the computer desk...everywhere.

I quit on the 4th of March, 2010. Commit lozenges the only thing that helped, so, naturally, I'm now hooked on those little pearls of Madison Avenue's cunning hooks!

Drifting, I am. Backwards talking also, I am!

Want to try e-cigs. Something tells me they will be more conducive for spending my last days doing a reasonable imitation of something I did professionally, almost.

But, I am not brave and bold enough to just go and buy a 'kit'. I'm getting some good, some neutral input here..and will continue to avail self of the accumulated experiences of others.
I have to weeks worth of the lozenges stocked up. Got 'em on sale...$7.00 off.
When I'm down two / three days worth, It's crunch time........Any email messages filled with hope and encouragement welcome. Please?

Welcome to ECF , and yes I think E-cigs , or personal vaporizers ( PV's ) as we like to call them , can be your answer . First read the sticky memos at the top of the new members forums . A lot of good information , for rookies , such as yourself . Don't buy that cheap junk , they sell in 7/11's , liqueur stores , and the malls . Do a little research first and buy one that is gonna keep you off the ciggy's and get you off the lozenges . There are lots of kits out there that will work for you . If you don't mind charging the batteries all the time , a simple 510 kit would do . If on the other hand you want it to last longer between charging and such , buy a largerPV , such as a Riva , or an E-Power . You can google them , to find out more info . ANd if you go to LIberty Flights website , they sell the Riva kits , very reasonably . Good luck and enjoy the journey .

welcome and hopefull you will get the information you need here at this forum to assist you. the only suggestion and most reasonably priced i can give you is to pick up a disposable electronic cig from places like walgreens (they are around 8 bucks) and give it a try. if the cessation mimics your smoking habit (dont really pay alot of attn to the flavor, that can be adjusted if you are interested) then maybe ecigs will work for you and move you up to a better rechargable kit! good luck and ask away, no question is a bad question here!

Hang in there! Most of us quit multiple times before we found PV's and vaping. If you decide to buy a PV, start with a good beginner model. One thing that many of us have found:

The more it looks like the real thing, the worse the performance.

Get a manual battery model with a little better battery so you are not frustrated by needing to change batteries every 45 - 75 minutes. I would suggest the E-Power 510 or the Riva 510 as good starter models. Both are about the size of a sharpie pen or slim cigar. Both will give you 5 - 6 hours on a charge. I would also suggest starting out around 24mg nicotine strength eliquid as most find they need this to transition to vaping. Here are several well supported sites to look at for these and other models:

Good Luck

Welcome to ECF. I'm a couple years younger, 67, but smoked neigh onto 3 packs of cigarettes a day for about 52 years. I DIY my own eLiquid. Now using 0Nic0FA. That's Zero Nicotine, Zero Flavor Added. I mix straight VG with about 25-30% PGA, (Pure Grain Alcohol), just to cut the viscosity back so the VG will wick to the coil in my VISION Carto. Haven't had a tobacco cig for more than 9 months. And, about two weeks ago, accidentally mixed a DIY batch of juice and forgot to add the nic. Been vapin my mistake for more than a couple weeks now. . .don't even miss the nicotine nor the flavoring. Good luck to you with your recovery. My breathin has improved ten fold from what it was when I smoked tobacco cigs. JMHO

Cheers,
otrpu

My grandfather pass last year in dec. I started e cig in sept 2 of this year if I was able to go back I would have lean my grandfather towards this because it's working so well for me and I actually enjoy it a lot more especially being skeptical at first but it's definatelly a alternative towards analogs and has the same perception as smoking - pressing a button (lighting up a analog) shaking your juice(packing your cig) all comparable to what I was used to.

Did I say I love vaping and never feeling like I have elephant sitting on my chest.

I wish you luck and stick with it till it's all you think of.

mmm.... A Jedi you might be. And welcome to ECF you are.

A lot of good advice to be had here, that's for sure. I started as many did, with a small cig look-alike. It got me going, but it didn't keep me satisfied for long. I was probably worse than many people in that respect. I dropped $160 in a mall ( I know better now ) and had 'outgrown' that setup in a day.

The right equipment and the right juice will amaze you - and make you forget all about the stinky sticks. Oh, and never assume anything with juice. Many people want something that tastes like the cigarettes they smoked. I thought I did too. Turned out, what catapulted me away from cigarettes was Chocolate+Caramel. Nobody was more surprised than me.
