Continuing to use a burnt wick?

2.5ohm heads on an eGo non-VV..interesting.. What kind of juice are you vaping? I'd wager it's more to do with chain-vaping, a high-VG juice, or something else besides burnt coils. Once you get that burnt taste after five or six hits, does letting the Evod sit bottom-down so the wicks are saturated make it go away after a few minutes, or does it continue to linger? I'm thinking you're just getting dry hits as opposed to having a burnt wick if it keeps doing it every time like that.

Well, what ohm heads should I be using? The ones coming are a 5-pack of 2.4's and two 1.8's. If 2.5's are too low, I'm going to be in trouble.

The problem certainly sounds like what you are describing. Letting it sit for a couple of minutes seems to help, but I can't wait five minutes between hits! Taking shorter hits where I don't hold the button down as long seems to work as well, but I'm a recently reformed Marlboro 100's smoker of 29 years. I need a big hit! Is that not possible with EVODs? If it's the nature of the beast with EVOD's, what inexpensive replacement would suggest? (I'm already tired of hearing about how much I've spent on this stuff from my accountant, another $10 and I'll be divorced and doing my own taxes!)

2.5s are, IMO, too high to use on a non-Twist/Spinner eGo, try the 1.8s when you get them. I myself picked up an eGo as a backup battery and have 1.8s coming for my Protank and Evods solely to use on the eGo, my Vamo is happy enough with the stock 2.5ohm coils. If you're feeling adventurous, grab a video off Youtube on disassembling an Evod head, PBusardo has a good one that includes rebuilding..what I'd suggest trying is either remove one or both flavor wicks from the head, or replacing them with cotton as someone above mentioned doing. That should improve the amount of juice flowing to the coil, and decrease dry hits.

I'm currently chain-vaping a roughly 70/30 PG/VG mix in an Evod at eight watts and having no issues at all with dry hits or burning, all I did was replace the flavor wicks with two 1mm wicks from an RDA I have, as opposed to those tiny 0.6mm or whatever the factory uses, no coil rebuild needed. May be worth a shot while you wait for the 1.8ohm heads to get to you.

ETA: As far as 'the nature of the beast' the reason I got the Evods in the first place was for chain-vaping, I've heard bottom-coil clearos/tanks are supposed to be very good for it as the wicks are gravity-fed instead of having to 'suck' juice up to a coil at the top of the tank like my Vivi Nova. That thing would constantly give me dry hits with thicker juices, and the symptoms were just what you described in your first post, which is why I immediately thought you might be getting dry hits instead of a burnt coil/wick.

Eventually, I'd like to start rebuilding coils, but right now, I just want a system that works, consistently and flawlessly. That's going to mean a good tank with a good mod. I don't see much point in rebuilding the knockoff EVODs that came stock with my $20 setup. My birthday is in November and I've been a good boy this year! We'll see what happens.

With the new heads comes new juice that is not pure VG. Hopefully, that combined with the new heads should take care of the issue.

As of right now, I just tried removing the flavor wick. It flooded. So, I put half of it back. Still flooded, but not quite as bad. Put the rest of it back in and "fluffed" it a bit. No longer floods, clouds of vapor, but within a few minutes... burned toast!

Now when you say "cotton", do you mean something like rolled up pieces of standard cotton balls that my wife keeps in the bathroom for reasons that no man has ever figured out ever? Or is there a wick made of cotton that I purchase at my local vape shop, Walmart or candle supply company?

Thanks again for the help.

Many on here use cotton balls (P.S. they're for makeup) but you can get cotton twine/rope from Wal-mart or a butcher and just boil it for a half hour before using. If you're using pure VG I'd immediately say that's part of your issue at least..is the nic level high enough that you could cut it with say..5-10% distilled/bottled water? That'll thin it out, not do too much to the flavor, and only lower the nic content slightly, while making it far easier to wick. The highest PG/VG mix I've experimented with in my Evods was 50/50 and it was slow to wick, but I never chain-vaped it and didn't have many issues.

I know some on here use 100% VG in their Evods and Protanks but I can't see ever doing it myself, just too thick for my taste, no throat hit.. Are you allergic to PG or did you just start with 100% VG because it's what your supplier had? Curious as you could try 60/40 or 70/30 PG/VG, with the latter being my preference in an Evod or other bottom-coil. Still plenty of vapor, nice throat hit, good flavor, but not too thick so as not to wick properly.

The 100% is what my supplier had. However, when I bought this kit, I also ordered some Hagsen "Mint Flavored" that is 80%PG. I don't vape it much because I don't really care for the taste. For $3.58, I figured I couldn't go wrong. Anyway, I just mixed that in and it really seemed to help. We'll see how it holds up. Looks like my Black Cherry is going to be a Black Cherry Mint until my order comes in.

My nic is at 2.4%, by the way. Once I start mixing my own (another project I plan to pick up... my wife teaches pharmacy and pharmaceutical compounding so she's got the ratios down pat), I can water it down and keep my nic level up. Until then, I'll have to wing it.
