I do only drip now! And can't figure out why I just sucked down 2 15ml bottles of JC Tennesse Cured 18mg, in 4 days.....when I thought the 24mg lasted a couple weeks? Seriously, does anyone know if it is the whole bottle for mg or per drip? I mean if you had a 30ml bottle of 18mg would you have to suck down 60ml of juice a day to get 36mg of nicotine out of it? That doesn't sound right. Somebody help me, I am chemistry-challenged! lol
the amount on the bottle refers to amount per ml i do believe.
i.e. 10ml bottle of 18mg juice would contain a total of 180 mg of nicotine or 18mg/ml

Okay there seems to be an aweful lot of guessing on this forum? Can we get some solid facts from anyone? Vendors? I am liking the conversion if its TOTAL MG per bottle, as in an 11mg(nicotine) 30ml bottle has a total of 11mg of nicotine. But is that right? If so, please erase all the other posts and make this a stickey with the facts.

:O)

OK, first post here and I find this site can sometimes to have too much info - have not bought my first e-cig but plan on getting the 510 from Widow.
That being said, I am a RYO (roll your own) smoker for over 5 years now and smoke a menthol light at around 1 to 1 1/2 packs a day (similar to a Basic menthol light). Been smoking over 30 years.
My question is - is what level of juice should I start at?
I see the science but this thread does not really help a newbie on making the decision on what juice nicotine level to get or I just am not seeing it. Is 18 a good start or should I start at 24 or even higher or go lower? What did you start at and who makes a comparable juice to the brand listed above?
Thanks in advance...

Mak: I'm not sure if I am qualified enough to answer your question but whichever way it goes, take what you can use and leave the rest.

I've been smoking Virginia Slims these last some-odd years after Misty stopped making the full-flavor brand. I used to smoke Virginia Slims full flavor before Misty's came out and I loved the flavor of Mistys so much that I changed over, got hooked on the taste then they stopped making except in lights and ultra-lights and menthol though also in lights and ultra-lights.

Marlboro cigs always gave me a sore throat for some reason. I have no idea why. Perhaps it was something in the tobacco. I've smoked cigars; sure, not too lady-like but so what...? I love a good quality cigar especially a Cuban but I've not had my hands on a Cuban in some years now after a friend's source dried up.

After I first ordered the Janty Dura-C e-cig starter kit, I ordered the e-liquid in 18mg. It was nowhere near strong enough but I had another order from another store coming with the 24mg. I'm filling with 24mg now but for some reason, I still find I'm slipping out at least twice a day if not three times for an analog cigarette. It's not all the time though. Usually it's that first one of the day and last one of the night then the one I occasional smoke at around noon is only when DH, my dad, or my 12yo has pushed my buttons to the point I'm about to implode. The analog calms my nerves enough to handle going back to the 24mgs.

I'm thinking of buying one bottle, possibly 2 since I hear the 36's might become difficult to buy in the future but I think I'm going to buy one or two bottles to see if that will get me over the rough patches until I can become accustomed to the lower dose and not need the analogs at all. Screw the US Government and it's high taxes on tobacco! I still can't believe that here in North Carolina, the state that produces the most tobacco than any other state in the USA, is now selling cigarettes at $5 and $6+ a pack! Duke Hospital, which was built on tobacco $$$ now is smoke free! I wish the families that donated to that hospital would demand their money back or threaten to stop their funding until they remove that stupid "No Smoking" sign from every corner of that freaking hospital. Tobacco wasn't so bad when it was building all their fancy wings and special centers. It wasn't such a bad thing when it was paying for all that expensive equipment that is on the cutting edge of medical technology yet now the hospital administrators are treating tobacco and its makers like dirt. I'd show them dirt. I'd take away all their funding then see just how far they got without it.

It just annoys me to no end. I don't mean to rant but that ticks me off. It's like the tobacco smokers are always getting crapped on yet an alkie waltz into any liquor store he/she wants and waltz out with the alcohol of his/her choice, get behind the wheel, and IF caught driving all he/she gets is a slap on the wrist and sent home once he/she sobers up.

Please forgive my rant. I had to spend some time at the hospital and it was raining like mad yet I had to go all the way OFF the hospital's property in order to get a $^#$^ cigarette. At least that won't happen anymore. LOL! :D

Paise,
Thanks for replying to my post.
I understand your frustration on the taxes. Here in Michigan we have been dealing with high cig taxes for some time. That is the reason for me going to RYO. I was able to punch my own cigs for around a dollar a pack. Now that the government has risen the tax on loose tobacco to $21.00 a pound (over 2000% increase) the cost is still lower (close to $3.00 a pack) but it is getting to the point that I really would love to just quit . But I have tried everything so many times and still go back. A 30+ year habit is hard to break.
This is the reason I am looking into E-smoking, or Vaping, or whatever one may call it. It looks like I can still continue to smoke without all of the bad. Even though the cost is higher than RYO, it is not just the cost, but my health which is more of an issue these days.
Would love to go to a party or anywhere where smoking is not allowed and be able to still smoke without having to go outside being subject to the elements. The figuring out how to catch a smoke or work a schedule around my smoking. Even where I work, when outside, you get the looks of the non-smokers or the occasional comments of those who do not smoke needing a smoke break.
I realize that there are those who would still shun me as a second class citizen do to my habit, even if I vape, but I feel this is worth a try.
Don't be to hard on the hospital as we have the same issues here (wife works a one). Smoking has become a unsociable and condemned practice which now is considered politically incorrect. They being in the health profession need to set an example even though we may disagree - this is more political then anything else.
Remember only around 20% of the population smokes. I hear the comments of that you are "stupid" for smoking etc.. but somehow people that make these same comments will let slide individuals who they admire (Obama) because they think he is so smart - sorry if you voted for him but I find this very hypocritical.
Enough of "My" rant :-x but thank you for actually answering some of my questions. Still need a source of a juice that is comparable in taste to what I am smoking. More reading I guess... Being that I am a "light flavor" smoker I will probably start out with a 18 mg and try smaller samples until I find something I like. I had to do this when I started rolling my own but the main factor here is I do not want to get to much nicotine - all loose tobacco is relatively the same in nicotine levels. My main worry is if I invest in vaping, will the stinking government do-gooders find a way to outlaw it.

The FDA in the US seems to be getting more and more powerful, doesn't it? I figure they'll outlaw vaping soon, or decide it's a medical device that you need a prescrption for. That way, the lobbying pharmacy companies can make up some of the money they'd lose from not being able to treat sick/cancerous smokers.

Ok, I'll get back to the topic, sorry!

I bought a 12mL bottle of 24mg juice (as well as small samples of other stuff), about 2 weeks ago, and started vaping as of June 28th. (I enjoy my 24mg Chocolate-mint ice cream-flavored juice far and away above any other flavor I've tried!)

I started getting a sore throat (from vaping), plus feeling tired and a little queasy in the tummy area, and a little headachey, and I've been trying to figure out if I'm having withdrawals, or overdosing! It's kind of hard to tell, since the symptoms appear to be roughly the same.

From this thread, and as near as I can tell, I'm still more or less on par with what I'd smoked before I started vaping, but I'm hoping someone can check me?:

I used to smoke 1 pack of clove cigarettes a day (Djarum Blacks- "1.6 mg nicotine"... is that "each"?)

Got my 510 Yeti two weeks ago. While each cartridge seems capable of holding 12-15 drops of my 24mg PG, I only seem to vape 3-4, maybe 5 drops' worth before topping it off with another 3-5 drops. I top off 2-3 times a day. (One battery seems to last me all day, too, though I pre-emptively switch batteries when I get home from work and re-charge the one I've been using, just to be on the safe side.)

Near as I can tell, I'm vaping a maximum of 20 drops a day (some drops left over in cart from day before, plus 3 max-drop top offs), which is roughly 1 mL, or 24 mg nicotine.

To check myself, knowing the size of drops may vary, I look at my bottle of juice: there is still over 1/3 bottle left, and it was a 12 mL bottle, so there is at least 4 mL left, indicating I've only used 8 mL in 14 days. (The samples I've used could make up another mL or three, but not more than that.)

That's still less than I was smoking, right? Since 1.6 mg clove cigarettes x 20 would be 32 mg daily?

Or have I misplaced a decimal point somewhere?? ANy help or reassurance would be appreciated =)

I smoked Salem ultra-light 100's -- most recently a pack a day -- for years. I purchased 18 mg to be sure I had enough kick and nic to the cig. I kept reading about "throat hit" and didn't understand it until I went to e-cigs. Yow! Guess those Salem's WERE ultra-light as I was never getting a throat hit from them. I do get one from the e-cigs....and rather like it!

I thought I was using too high nic content, so also purchased some 11 mg, but haven't dropped down to that level yet. I'm five weeks on e-cigs still doing 3 analogs per day for the heck of it, but see that ending pretty soon.

Been using prefilled cartridges and topping off multiple times a day. About one cart per day + top offs and I've gone through 33 pre-filled carts and 1 2/3 15 ml bottles of juice. There is a transition where you probably vape too much at first, so I had coughing and throat issues initially. Never had a nic craving in the least at 18 mg. I should mention that not working, I'm free to vape whenever I want to all day.

Lass --- As far as the menthol -- I purchased mine from e-SmokeyTreats and love, love, love it. It IS different. I find the menthol very tasty, far better than the analog menthol. After 5 weeks, the analogs that I do smoke taste pretty crappy in comparison. I think the difference in menthol taste is something that you get used to over time and will also come to enjoy more too!

After 37 years of smoking anywhere from 1 pack to 2 1/2 packs a day and this is incredible!! (Strawberry with menthol is really tasty.)

Good luck.

I'm using the M401 with 18mg drip. I usually put 4 or 5 drops in and that will last me most of the day. From what I've gleaned in this thread, I'm taking in WAY more nicotine than I did smoking Camels.

I know that when I used to over-smoke analogs I would start having hot flashes, and feel just generally sick. I haven't experienced that with the e-cig, so I find it hard to believe I'm over medicating. Has anyone had "nicotine sickness" while dripping?

Also a newbie here (my 510 kit arrives tomorrow !), and very glad I found this thread......but now I'm worried. I ordered the 24mg Menthol and wondering if I overdid it. I didn't want to go too low but may have overshot based on what I'm seeing here. I smoke 1.5 pks/day analog light menthol 100's.
How does one dilute the juice if that becomes necessary ? Can I buy ordinary glycerin I get at Walgreens or do I need to go to a health food store or what ? Advice appreciated.
GREAT forum !!!

You need food grade glycerin... found at health food stores, sometimes walmart and bigger grocery stores in the pharmacy near the laxatives. Mixing already flavored juice with too much of it is really going to cut your flavor so you may want to read the threads on menthol crystals so you can add a tad or you really wont have much menthol flavor at all. The flavored liquids IMO for the most part are pretty lightly flavored to begin with. Hobby stores sell alot of flavorings also if you cant get the crystals.

You're gonna love your 510!! Hope you got the manual battery :)

Maybe someone could help me with some (flawed?) logic on my part...

I have been using 18mg pre-filled carts, but decided to start refilling them instead. When I made my first liquid order, I mistakenly ordered 24mg liquid in various flavors but I found it to be much too strong for me (I vape a LOT).

Rather than dilute it with VG (which I have ordered but not received yet) and thereby dilute it's taste as well, I opted to re-order more of the same flavors of liquid but in 0mg nic from the same company. I figured if I mixed the 2 in equal amounts, I *should* get about a 12mg nic (or in that range) with no flavor reduction, which was fine because I had hoped to reduce the nic from 18mg anyway since I vape so much. This seemed kinda logical to me.

I spoke to a representative when ordering to ask if the 0mg nic had the same taste as the 24mg nic and she said, yes, it did, but that they "do not recommend" mixing them and that it would be "at my own (risk or something to that effect)".

Am I missing something?

as boomer says. Your logic is quite correct. Mixing 1 part of 0% with 1 part of 24% will give you 2 parts of 12%

They are just quoting health and safety at you for obvious reasons and to protect thier trade.

I am on the same boat but all I did was add one drop from one bottle and then another drop from another bottle into the cartridge and then put it away to have it handy for later. That's was it (this is is for the DSE901). It worked out just fine.

I bought a sample of 24mg and it is too strong. I was thinking too of buying a zero nicotine level juice and mixing it as you say.
