i have been diagnosed with COPD......quit smoking 4 yrs ago by starting vaping. Have loved vaping and never looked back at the stinky habit I had for over 40 yrs. But apparently my lungs had already been damaged. I felt really good up until about 6 months ago when I started to get out of breath whenever exerting at times....so had some tests done and result says COPD. I was really surprised cuz I thought I had dodged it.......and now they are telling me not to vape either because it also irritates the lungs. I don't want to give it up, but I may have too. Anyone else in my boat ???
I am not in your boat, maybe not even in your pond, however my brother certainly is and is on steroids and spiriva etc but he too smoked for many years, not to mention my dad's 3 pak a day habit (in the house) as well as my mom's 2 pak a day. What I do, and what I have often done is look for something that can address dysfunction at the cellular level. If you goto PubMed and enter mitochondrial dysfunction you will see that many if not all degenerative neurological diseases involve failure of the mitochondria at some level and pulmonary dysfunction such as COPD certainly returns on a search.
