Adam, I know an 18 year old who wants very badly to learn gunsmithing - any suggestions on how he could try? I would assume some sort of apprenticeship with a master gunsmith?

That's great to hear!!! With a trade like this, an apprenticeship is THE way to go. Is he skilled in metal work/machining? If not, that's ok. But it's a very handy skill to have if he wants to be a gunsmith. If he's very motivated and driven, AGI (American Gunsmithing Institute) has some great videos.

Is there anything specific he wants to do? Pistol-smithing? AR-15 armorer?

Does he like hand fitting small parts? Did he build models as a kid? If so, he's one skill (patience) closer.

Urge him to read the laws of what's allowed without an FFL. It's limited and he can find himself in hot water pretty quickly.

And as already stated, the NRA website can help point him in the right direction.

I think his interest isn't really specific to types of weapons. I'll have him look into AGI and check out the videos. He has no machining or metalworking experience, but definitely yes on the building models. He loves that stuff. I suggested he try to find a local gunsmith who would let him apprentice. Thanks!

Congrate on making it. Wish there was a way to let people know those look like cigs are a waste of money.

There are a few that aren't too bad. I started with Volts (Smokeless Image) and was pretty happy with them. Within a few weeks I moved on to KGO's though, and the rest is history. I did actually quit on the Volts. These days I till use the KGO's out and about, and the P-word at home.

Surprisingly, I don't have a lot to say today. I've got some stuff to do here and do not want to do any of it. I'm thinking of making some jewelry. All the stuff is out on the dining room table just calling my name to come dig in. I have some stuff I need to order so maybe I'll go check out etsy realy quick after I look in the classies.

I started with Volts, too. I thought I was happy and content until Drott found out I was using -808 batts and recharging three or four times a day, and sent me an old OG. Then I wound up with a VVbox, then a Roughstack, and an LT. I havent looked back.

Like my mom... She told me that she bought a Blu. I told her she shouldve emailed or called me first. I think she was worried I was going to push an LT on her. She doesnt want one that big. I hope that she talks to me after the Blu comes in and I can get her on a path that will work better.
