I found a solution to keeping up with Ruger until hr masters this potty issue. I bought a 15 ft leash and tied it to the leg of the coffee table. He can wander the living room and I can still see him. So far so good.

I love the extra handle. Gives you better control at close range. Very nice!

I've had to use that extra handle many times to keep Shrek from dragging me across the yard or charging a passing neighbor taking a walk. I have to brace myself and lean backwards to keep from being dragged over. 
Shrek would freak out if I tried to put a gentle leader on him. I do use the gentle walker for Ruger though.
