Lets see if I can put this in words. The top coil that goes to the positive trends to come away from the wick and become a hot spot. Just bend it so it curls around the wick some before it goes to the post. Works for me.

Howdy Posse!

Been a productive do nothing kinda day. Started with taking Kat to Sunday school. Buying some Hickory and Mesquite wood from Lowes. Went to Walmart for more stuff that we didnt need. Got home, started soaking some red beans for dinner tomorrow. Took a good two hour nap. Fiddled with my RBA. Gave up on fiddling with the RBA. Fixed BBQ ribs for dinner. Gave two kids a bath. Made the third get in the shower. Shared my Oreos with the kids since they all ate their dinner. Now its time for football and then the final race of the NASCAR season.

I had an older CE2 that I was saving for some unknown reason. Took the silica wick out of it and ran it through a coil I had already made that was burning evenly with no wick. I put the silica wick in it, and it dry burned perfectly. As soon as I added juice, I got a hot spot. After this little revelation, I know I dont have anything shorted. Silica doesnt short. That means Im doing something wrong with the coil. The wraps are evenly spaced, so it has to do something with how it leaves the wick to the positive terminal. Im just not sure WHAT.

Not at all FV. Im frustrated at my inability to figure out what Im doing wrong with it. But thats it. Im not even frustrated with the RBA itself. Its me thats doing something wrong, not it.

if you not properly burned the mesh tube, may result a short circuit !

Agreed I wrap tighter on silica than mesh.

I dont THINK that is my problem. I had the same problem with silica as I was with the mesh. That leads me to believe its a problem with my method of wrapping the coil.

I tried taking a picture to show what I meant but that ain't happening with a cell camera.
Dont worry. I think I know what you mean.

No news. Not yet anyway.

Edit: He couldn't find it in the dark, and will be out looking for it at first light. He looks pretty bummed.
Wow. That sucks.
