Thanks guys. I thought about it afterwards and thought it might not look nice. 
I called home quite awhile ago to ask for a ride, and went to the answering machine. Still here.

I think the pics are a bit deceiving. I don't think it's really that big. I'll know more when I can actually go inside and run look around.

Oh...I just read back and I misstated. The rba is reading 1.9 ohms. However, the only part getting red hot is the leg from the SS wick to the + post.
Try moving the coils up and down a wee bit with a toothpick.
oh, and make sure the wick is not touching the bottom of the tank, the metal part in the middle or the post.

I was going to say Ty for the wire but that would be wrong right.
Disclaimer no wire was sent I was just stirring the pot as drott would say.
