This is what the old floor in the bathroom was like. I took this pic in the kitchen. Notice the hatchet marks from killing the snake.

I have a PITA barker among my menagerie...He drives me nuts. You can't put him outside because he barks at air.Seriously.The others will be on the deck soakin up the sun and he's barking. He shoots himself backwards when he barks and he has an annoying bark. Not like Rums who has a barreling bark or even a Dixie Kisses bark. It's like a high pitched whine and he has a cadence. It's Woof...Woof Woof...It never varies.I sometimes want to hurt him..Instead I bought this handy device and IT WORKS...
Amazon.com: Pet Agree Ultrasonic Training Aid: Pet Supplies
Pay no attention to the Chinese Writing...this baby works. When he barks I shoot it at him and I say No bark...reinforcement is key...Did I say it works? He has no idea what hit him..He was so quiet today.I can actually hear my neighbors praising Jesus..

I have two questions about protanks. How do you know when the head has to be replaced and not just cleaned? Are dry hits normal and can you prevent them?

I had a couple that had dry hits but they want away after awhile. I read to blow in the top when that happens it worked for me.

Hey folks. Just wanted to give everyone a quick update of whats been going on... Like FV said, Cocoa isnt doing so well, and its not exactly a happy time at home.

Starting Saturday morning, we kept finding that one of the dogs was getting sick around the house. At first we thought it was Charli, because she likes to graze like a sheep in the back yard. Then Sunday afternoon, Mrs E saw that its was Cocoa. She gave her all day Monday to see if it would clear itself out, and Monday evening, the the vet told her to boil some rice and add a touch of chicken broth to see if it would stay down. It didnt. Then we started noticing Cocoa was having a hard time standing up and sitting/laying down. Tuesday, when she got sick yet again, Mrs E called the vet and made an appt at took her that afternoon. After giving her an IV of fluids to combat dehydration, they did some blood work. Last year, her liver enzymes were higher than the "normal" range. This time, they were well below. Meaning that last year, her liver was starting to fail, and now, it seems like it is finally failing. The next step was to get an ultrasound of her liver, but since we cant afford it, and there is nothing that can be done if it is liver failure, we declined it. The vet gave us a special kind of canned food, and about 4 different meds that she has to take a couple times a day, mixed in with the food. Tuesday afternoon, she did ok with the food and the pills mixed in. Yesterday morning, Mrs E gave her the food/meds, but Cocoa figured out that there were pills in it. She ate the food, going as far to lick the pills clean and leave them on the plate. Yesterday afteroon, Mrs E tried breaking them up into a powder and sprinkling it on the food and mixing it in, but Cocoa didnt even touch it then. As of now, though she seems to be drinking enough water, she hasnt eaten anything since yesterday morning. After another call to the vet, Mrs E is boiling some chicken and will try shredding it up with the meds sprinkled on/in it. If we dont see any improvement in her appitite, she's going to starve herself to death. If she eats, but the meds dont work, she's going to die from liver failure and dehydration from the constant vomiting. But the vet has already told us that if, by the beginning of next week, she isnt better, we need to start thinking about having her put to sleep.

***Edit***
Mrs E just called and said Cocoa ate the chicken, but she didnt put any meds in it.

Sorry to hear about the sick fur critter, James. Pets become like family. :(

Good news mod turned up.:lol: was put somewhere safe for me. All is good.

Excellent! And good for whoever put it up safe.

It's like an iPad but better and not named after a feminine hygiene product.

SO wrong, but....

I've always had the best luck with processed cheese slices. You can wrap them totally around the pill, and usually a dog will swallow it without knowing anything was in there. I've never tried the Greenies things, I'll have to check them out.

Mine was restored again today. :) We have a $50 money order sitting on the desk that someone turned in - they found it at the train station. It's not filled out at all, so anyone could cash it.

I love stories like this. Hopefully some wonderful karmic repayment comes back to the person who turned it in.

They're squishy treats with a built in pocket that you put the pill in and close over it. They even come in chicken flavor. I've never tried one personally, so no telling what they really taste like. You can get them at PetSmart, most likely in the aisle that has the vitamins etc...
Mrs E knows of the brand. We may have to look in to it... Next pay day. Taxes plus getting dresses for the girls for the wedding have whooped our bank account into submission.

James,I am so sorry.I have a dog that's a pill detector.I roll it in butter and stick it down his throat and hold his mouth shut until he swallows. He knows meds a mile away...I don't know if you would be comfortable doing that but it does work.
The pill in the chicken didnt work. She ate the chicken and spit the pill out. So, I dropped it down her throat (wish I saw the butter idea sooner) and held her mouth shut. After she stopped trying to force it back out between her teeth, I let her mouth go, and *plop*... out pops a slobbery pill. I throw it back down her mouth, and as shes struggling to get away from, frothing at the mouth, Ive got her muzzle held with both hands, sitting down trying to hook my leg around her backside to keep her from pulling away, Mrs E is dying laughing at the sight, and I had to yell at her to grab the syringe (no needle) and fill it with water. Once I got Cocoa into a full nelson, I let her open her mouth just enough to let Mrs E shoot some water down her mouth to force her to swallow. Even after all that, a tiny piece still popped back out. You would think after 14 years, she would understand that even though she's stubborn, Im even more stubborn than she is.

What... in....THEEEEE hell?!?
