Evenin' y'all. Just got back from the game and still trying to wrangle kids to bed. Everyone is numb from the cold. Spending nearly 3 hours in 35 degree weather with a stiff breeze makes it kinda chilly.
AAAAAAND we lost. Once I realized who was playing on the team we were playing against, I knew we had nearly zero chance of winning. Three of them were on our undefeated team from the fall. And two more of them were a part of the All Star team from last year. The catcher had played for me in the past, and she doesnt have an arm. She has a cannon attached to her shoulder.
We were plagued with the usual rookie problems of not swinging the bat at perfect pitches, or any thing, for that matter. But the three worst plays were made my my dearest daughter. Two hits went to our third baseman. She fielded the ball both times, and sent two very good throws to first, straight into Kat's glove. Which she promptly dropped. Then at the end of the game, Kat was walked which loaded the bases. On a wild pitch, all of my girls came off the base with a solid lead, but the catcher (see above paragraph) was able to stop the ball and jump up. Everyone returned their base, except Kat. She wanted to steal, but when no one in front of her left, she just stood there. The catcher fired a rocket of a throw to first for an easy out, which ended the game.
And as if that wasnt bad enough, MY catcher is ...... at me. When popping up to get to the backstop to recover a wild pitch, she tweaked her ankle. I led her off the field, limping, but she insisted that she was ok. The next inning, I let her go back out behind the plate. She stopped another bad pitch, but when she went to recover it, she was all but crawling. So I brought her out of the game. She started crying because she was that mad. Seeing that much heart and desire to play is awesome, but I wont keep an injured player on the field with the chance to make it worse. I feel really bad for her, but I just wont do that.
We've got another practice tomorrow, and Im hoping we can fix some of the issues we had tonight. But for now, Im going to curl up on the couch under a blanket, with an ice cream sammich.
I hope everyone has a great night.
