You have to be careful. Ian had a kid that picked on him in elementary school, and the teacher never did anything about it. She even had them sitting next to each other. Ian's a lot like me, he's really laid back, but when he reaches his limit, it's not pretty. One day the kid was stuffing grass in Ian's shorts, and he reached the limit, grabbed the kid's arm and twisted it up behind his back. He broke the boy's arm, technically a spiral fracture, and it's a damned good thing I was friends with his mom or we could have been sued and had Ian thrown out of school. Oh, and Ian was a black belt in tai kwon do and knew better than to use any of that on him.

So the next bully was in middle school, and was smacking Ian with a jump rope handle in gym class. Ian managed to grab the rope and took it away, but the kid decided to do a sneak attack. It ended up with Ian on the floor and the kid having to get pulled off of him by the gym teacher, twice. Zero tolerance escalated it to having to go to court, which kept getting delayed until summer when none of the witnesses were available. Ian ended up with community service for defending himself. BTW, he was 6'4" and about 250 lbs at the time, the bully was about a head shorter than him. The judge couldn't believe the kid started the fight. :grr:

Look, things have changed but the existence of bullies has not. Every kid has got something to prove to every other kid. It's in our dna and there's no changing it. I believe that bullying should stop, however that would mean that every child was equal - at all times, and I don't necessarily find that to be the ultimate solution. There's also the parent factor - whether they care about their kids or not. This can also increase/decrease the possibilities of developing a bully in the family.

And so, I put myself "out there" - from my own childhood: I have been overweight all my life. I got the "fatty-fatty-two-by-four" comments ad infinitum. Didn't care. I had parents that reaffirmed in me that I was a worthwhile person and that I should be proud of who I am. That worked - to a point. Until I was in Jr high and found a note on my desk just after school. It was supposedly from another male student who had suggested we get together behind the school someday because they thought I was cute.

The note confused me at the time, and I presented it to my parents - who in turn presented it to the school board - who in turn found out which two students wrote the fake note. As far as I know they were suspended for a week. I was told to report to the counselor's office once a week for 4 weeks. They wanted to make sure I wasn't "damaged" by the note. I wasn't. They were afraid I'd "turn gay" from the note. Um, no. What I would have rather happened was the two students who did this were thrown out of school permanently. Thankfully, when the students came back from suspension they didn't mess with me again.

I have no idea what happen to those two kids - nor do I care. I came out of it OK. Hell, I'm thought of as worse than just overweight nowadays. From my previous experience and from my parents' backing, I've learned to say, ".... 'em".

The important thing is that as long as there is a supportive parent - best to have two - behind the kid, chances are they're going to turn out just fine. If not better from the experience.

I can't run since the knee replacment.But it wouldn't be pretty if I could.:lol::lol:Flap Flap,Flop,Flop.:lol::lol:

I can't run either because of my weight. But I can walk, ride a bike, and follow exercises on my Xbox's Kinect. Hell, I have a bar 1.1 miles away from my house. My wife and I measured. That's pretty good motivation if you ask me.

And on the bad news front, sson is leaving for Afghanistan at midnight.

Give him an extra hug and thank him for defending our country.

Good morning Posse! Its getting CLOOOOOOSER!!!!! Two more days of work. One more softball game. Then its going to be a full hour of frantically packing the car and then we'll be on the way south! Still excited and apprehensive... but now its turning in to more excitement that apprehension.

This afternoon is going to be a whirlwind. I HAVE to leave on time at 4 this afternoon. Make the hour drive home. Make sure I have everything for our game this evening. Change clothes. And I hope that will leave me enough time to get to the game which is an away game that starts at 6. I get to spend the majority of my lunch hour getting the lineup set so I dont have to scramble to get it set when I get to the field.

Well said. I grew up being the "husky" kid too until I hit high school. I wore clothes from Goodwill, haircuts were too few and far between. At one point, I was asked if I was a girl. But I can honestly say that I never felt "bullied". Just made fun of a lot. Now Im dead sexy with a decent job. About a year ago, I stepped into Subway to buy lunch, and lo and behold, I see a guy that I was in school with that made fun of me. Hehe. Guess who had to make my sandwich.

I think things like that made me in to the heap of awesomeness I have grown into. :D

Morning guess who's sinuses are infected. Yep.

Good mornign Drott. Not liking that. At all. I think a sinus infection is what caused my sore throat and fever last week. Dont let it get that bad before you see a doctor, ok?

Just wasn't feeling chatty with the migraine. Today is the first day since saturday my head hasn't hurt in some form or another. Knock on wood.

Hey dude. I missed this post earlier. I wouldve said something sooner had I been a little smarter.

Just made myself look like an idiot in front of a co-worker (but also a friend) by not knowing something small and simple. I'm a little worked up over it and beating myself up a bit. Not having a good night.

FV, safe journey to your son. Thank him for all of us! :)

With bullies I honestly believe it's the hand that rocks the cradle..I was taught at a very early age to respect all people. People with disabilites were introduced to me by name not by affliction. If I stared at anyone that was different..I got the lecture "There but for the grace of god go you" I taught my children in the same way.I knew it had paid off when we were at a relatives wedding and the bride had a brother who had Down's Syndrome. He was about the same age as Anna who was 16.He asked her to dance every slow dance and she did dance with him every time he asked.I didn't tell her too.She never once made faces at me to get her out of it.She accepted graciously and without hesitation. That's the day I knew I did good and I heard by Grandma who was in heaven whisper "Bravo" into my ear...
