Hi all,
I´m still struggling to get a perfect build for this tank ... funny enough my first wicking was perfect but I can´t remember how I did it ... my last 4 tries where all fails. I have a very sweet and flavorful lemon based juice that gives a very sweet, powerful vape in my kayfun 5 tank, but in the Skyline it just tastes dull and has nearly no sweetness at all. My current build is a normal Kanthal Micro Coil with 28GA (0,32 mm) wire and 7 turns over a 2,5 mm coilmaster aid. This gives me a ~ 1.5 Ohm coil that I prefer. Always use the same Japan natural cotton which is good. Use the 3x 1mm MTL disk only. The coil is quite small and is placed low, around 1,5 mm away from the airdisk. Reflow is good, I get lost of vape but it´s flavorless. Plus, I get quick darkening of the liquid which is normally only light yellow (from the lemon aroma I use). It tastes like I only vape the base and the aroma and all the flavor stays in the liquid.

I already tried (without success):
- use 2 mm coil instead of 2,5 mm diameter
- use a spaced coil instead of microcoil
- use "scottish roll" wick instead of simple cotton (reflow problems)
- use a 3 mm coil with more cotton

I will try a 26GA (0,4 mm) wire tomorrow, I think that might be the wire I used on my first build. So before I give up on this otherwise fine tank I´m calling out to you guys to share your optimum flavorful setup with me... maybe you can even take a photo of your build and show me where your coil is positioned, that seems important on this tank?
Thanks and regards,
K.

From what you have posted it seems like you are concentrating more heavily on the wire you use and changing the gauge and diameter, but I think that you should be looking more at your wicking technique. You posted that your Lemon Based juice tasted "Dull and no sweetness at all", usually that points to wicking, either too tight in the coil and choking off the juice flow, or pushed too far down (or packed) into the wick slot too tightly and again choking off the juice flow. Try adjusting your wicking as a start. Also, check out page #18 as @benley73 gives us some fine pictures of his builds to go by, notice his wicking is not packed into the coil or down into his wick slots, it's just laid down into that wick hole where it doesn't touch the bottom of the slot. I cut my wick so as to only cover half way down into that wick slot, to give the juice enough room to flow in there and saturate the cotton.

This technique (strangely and surprisingly) works best for me:

Thanks, will try that, but i´m sure with that much wick directly in front the airdisk it would leak in to the airflow like hell... also, blocking the juice holes with that much wick could result in serious juice flow problems and dry hits...

Surprisingly and strangely, neither of those thing happen

Since I started using this wicking technique I no longer get the darkening of juice in my tank.
Ive been using Rayon ,/cello cotton , to good effect , 3mm id spaced 316l , 26g ,
Or Claptons 26g /32g 316L
3mm id builds ,
Ive wiped most the pics from my mobile now needed the space ,
You want your cotton not tight but not lose within your coil so your able to pull it at either end without it bending your spaced coil, but not lose so it just easily comes out, then the wick tails measure down to your deck cut as the just about reach to your wick hole ,
Fluff out wick tails raise up and cut at a slight taped angle on the inside of the wicks

I have my coil raised a little higher over my airflow intake.
Where to tool is touching inside of the wick is the part cut at Slight angle , to allow the rest of wick to fit within the small channel over juice inlet channels ,

i check that no wick is touching the inner Airflow this will cause leaks if a few threads hang over

Juice enters and fills the bottom of the deck feeding wicks , no leaks , no dry hits ,
Good Flavours ,
just keep at it , keep messing around with little variations each time,

The leak free Vape and Flavours are there for this atty.

As mentioned above though if its a dull Flavour usually down to tight wicking , either within the coil or wick tails , crushing/ closing off the natural juice flow within the wicks

I wick mine like your first photo, but, instead of cutting off my tails, I lay them down right in front of the coil in the juice cup. I still get juice bleed-back though, even doing it that way.
It don't both me , TBH if did just get the resin bubble you wont see it then [emoji6]

Hey folks, happy to report I finally have my Skyline up and running in a perfect setup and with optimum results, thanks to your help and lots of testing. Was a bumpy road, though ;)
I think some of the problems I had were connected to the Cleito Bubble tank I decided to install. Turns out that while it fits the Skyline in general, it has slight build tolerances in the glass so it was leaking on the bottom side of the main O Ring when I had it installed the wrong way - when I decided to rotate the glass tube the other way around it´s completely leak free ... so if you use the bubble tank and have problems try to install it the other way around.

I now have a build that is a 0.4 mm Kanthal microcoil with 8-9 wraps (results in ~1 Ohms) with 3mm diameter. I think the Skyline likes/needs larger coils with thicker wire than other tanks. The slightly "longer" coil also helps to avoid leaking because the distance between wick and airdisk is bigger. I have the coil quite close to the airdisk opening, around 1mm. Great great flavour!

Next thing I changed was the wicking material. I used japan organic cotton in the past and now tried rayon. I was highly sceptical because heating up a "string of plastic" seemed strange to me, but it´s actually awesome! It also does not collapse so much when wet compared to cotton.

I think the most important thing with the Skyline build is to NEVER EVER block the two main liquid holes with too much cotton/rayon. The juice needs to flow, so take less cotton and cut the wick ends shorter, spread out the wick ends and look that the cotton close the juice holes is not tight, otherwise you´re doomed to get reflow problems and dry hits in a breeze! Btw, I always have the juiceflow control wide open, no need to limit it IMHO.

I really hope it stays that way now. Of all my MTL tanks this produces the best vape (including the kayfun V5 clone)!
K.
