I had a coil last night that with every hit I got a scorched taste. I thought it was one of the ones that Megan rebuilt. So I popped the chimney off, looked at it with all the intention of rewicking it, took my tweezers and started pulling out the wick. It came out in strings. It was a stock coil. Now there's a little bit of wick stuck inside the coil itself that even my tiny tweezers can't get to. I guess this one will be my first to try and rebuild. The coil in it now is all wonky!

I've found that rinsing them really well first and then twisting the wick in the direction that tightens the wraps (sometimes in opposite directions at the same time from both ends) tends to shrink the wick's diameter and also helps it to break free of the gunk on the inside of the coil helps in sliding it or removing it.

Thanks for the info! I wish I had known it Saturday night! Oh well....now I have a head to play with.:)

Arguably the best cotton wicking out there is Ko Gen Do....very easy to work with and you can get a life time supply shipped from Japan here...

Here's one of resident Reos gurus (SuperXDrifter) showing how to work with it...

And another....

BTW...organic cotton can be brown...cotton is not pristine white off the plant...

This is a fun experiment about wicking absorption...

Also...I know...tmi...I had a little too much coffee today...
Wow! Thank you for the sites! Looked at one, going to look at others when I get home today. Thanks! (And I have some of that fancy cotton coming to me in the next few days! :) )

Take care,
Dani

Cotton is white...not perfectly white...check those hand picked balls, you will find little brown flecks....the non organic cotton balls we use for regular things are bleached to be perfectly white....I have never seen fully brown cotton, but I have seen shades from pinkish to tan....hard to tell if the OPs packaging had any tint to it.

En.Wikipedia.org/wiki/naturally_colored_cotton

I have never seen machu picchu either but it does exist.
