Welcome , and it's because both PG, and VG are desiccants , that dry you out . I'm sure you have read , to drink plenty of water . I used to not drink so much water , and everything was drying out . Mouth , lips , skin , etc . Avg. male , at least a gallon of water everyday . I use sugar free water flavorings to make it a bit more palatable .

lol yeah I don't quite get that...if you are vaping moisture...you would think that wouldn't happen...but I'm betting it's the pg or vg or both that causes this...sure the nic doesn't help but I know some people vap nic free and still get dry mouth....

oh well...I look at it as just another perk of vaping...not only is it healthier than smoking, it's forcing me to drink more water/juice :D

PG and VG are humectants...
A humectant is a substance used primarily in foods and cosmetic products to help retain moisture. These substances are called hygroscopic, which means that they are able to absorb ambient water. These hygroscopic compounds posses a chemical structure that attracts water from the atmosphere and binds it to various sites along the molecule.

When we inhale PG/ VG it "traps" the moisture in our mouth, throat and nasal area and thus the vapor. The real problem arises when the body is dehydrated and begins "stealing" moisture from other parts of the body to keep key organs hydrated. Add to that more than 3 cups of java or caffeine based soda drinks and severe dehydration can occur.
I had a convert that didn't believe vaping was dehydrating. I showed him his fingernails- there were vertical rails on them. Told him this was a sign of serious dehydration. He began drinking water/ hydrating and within a couple of months his fingernails returned to normal...he's now a believer. Ask any chemist and they will tell you the same. I drink 2+ liters of water per day and no more than 3 cups Java per day.

Both propylene glycol (pg) and vegetable glycerin (vg) can be considered to be humectants, meaning that they attract and absorb moisture or water. These two components draw fluid from our tissues (mouth, tongue, throat, and lungs) each time we vape. That's why veteran vapors encourage newcomers to drink plenty of water to replace what is lost.

Not what I wanted to hear. I had a gastric bypass 5 years ago and have a hard time getting water down to begin with. I would be willing to bet I am dehydrated 300 days out of the year. Its hard to get water in a small space when you know you need to eat.

I'm really sorry to hear about that. Rather than drinking cold water try warm water as it disperses throughout the body/ system quicker than cold water- also uses less body energy which equates to less body fluids being used.
I always advise vapers to confide in their Dr. about vaping. Regardless of whether or not they're supportive always a good idea that they know. Personally with myself and converts I've yet to hear of a Dr. that has not been jubilant about their patient quitting smoking.
Wishing You the Best of Luck.
