My builds are almost exactly the same. I use CVS organic cotton and dont boil. Other than the boiling part my only suggestion would be to try a slightly smaller cotton wick. Mine dont get tight enough to ever pull the coil and I dont roll the cotton as tight as possible when I roll them. So dont over squeeze the cotton and make it so it just fits perfect, not thick where it is hard to pull through at all. Best of luck! oh one other thing, I try to avoid the flavor wich on top of the coil cause i think that does mute the flavor a bit.
Thanks for the input! FWIW, I built 3 more tonight using a shorter wrap: 6 wraps on a 1/16' drill bit- makes for about 1.75Ω, and I am going a tad lighter on the cotton. It's a little better, I think. Not getting any bad flavor, but still not getting what I'm used to on a good stock 1.8Ω silica coil. I am pleased with the beautiful coils I'm making, and getting great vapor, but if I'm not getting the flavor, it really doesn't matter. I'm open to any suggestions, but if I can't figure it out, I'm gonna start rebuilding on silica.

Where is the first link to this rebuilding with cotton? And what are you using. I have never built anything like this, but I loved the true flavor of the CE2 inwhich must no longer be around. I have tried many, many different tubes for my eGo and I just can't get the right flavor; Even bought a Buzz thinking it could help; But so for no luck. All I want is the flavor my CE2 gave me with my Coffee flavor. Can anyone help me. Show link, pictures, I have about 6 CE2 left and to conserve on them Im using the ViVi Mimi. I think that is what its called. And its not bad, but still not what I'm wanting. I have saved a lot of my empty nun working CE2's hoping I will learn to rebuild them. But due to health problems I haven't been able to. I had heart surgery and My doctor gave me thumbs up about using the electronic cigarette. He ha no problems with them. Send me a note, maybe some of your old worn out trial ones. I just don't want to smoke the real deal, and the CE2's are no where to be found. And the ones I did order from a suggestion was a Hugh mistake because they are one of the first addition with the crappy tubes. that crack, and they short out all the time. Anyway thanks if you can help me or steer me in a good direction.

I decided to give cotton wicked micro-coils one last try, and built an absolutely perfect coil: 9 tight 30 gauge wraps on a 1/16" drill bit, held them together with tweezers and torched, all wraps touching, beautiful, perfect symmetry, perfectly aligned in the head, 1.9Ω, a freakin' work of art- fires beautifully. Gently threaded a perfect organic cotton wick- not to tight, room to expand when saturated. Saturated the wick and a light flavor wick before replacing the stem.

The result: Lots of vapor, but all the flavor is not there. I compared with another EVOD with the same juice (Ahlusion's delicious Lime Cream) and a silica rebuild. The creamy sweetness and color notes are just not there with the cotton micro.

Conclusion: Either I'm doing something wrong (but doubt it, because I've really done my homework on this) or the folks who are raving about cotton micro-coils are using flavors that are so aggressive that they don't notice the difference, or these folks are just not that sensitive to flavor subtleties.

So, until I hear a reasonable suggestion for something different to try, I'm done with cotton micros.

There is definitely a break in time even with cotton. Also during which time I gradually increase my voltage. May take longer with the use of flavor wicks. somewhere between 1/2 to one whole EVOD tank worth of juice is what I'd say.Just my $.02:evil:
