Sounds like you're getting 'dry hits', the wicks may be pinched and not wicking very well; or the coil may not be formed well and you may be getting hot spots.
Just a few other things to consider.

Hey Devil, I've worked with the Vivi Nova before and I know what you're talking about, there could be a few reasons as to why you're getting those dry hits, but it sounds like it's mainly due to wicking issues, may I assume that you leave your PV standing upright whenever you're not vaping? Maybe you could try resting it flat down on the table whenever you're not vaping and when you do try to hold it at a 90 degree angle when you vape to help the wicking process, the thing about the Vivi Nova is that when the juice level hits below a certain level it won't wick very well unless you do the things mentioned above. It doesnt sound like you're having issues with PG as you've been vaping for a month. I would leave my PV upright when the juice is fully refilled but the moment it reaches half I would lay it down on the table. Also because Vivi Novas wicks aren't very thick make sure you aren't vaping it at too high a voltage vs the resistance you're using, that would cause you to get dry hits because the wicking material is thin, therefore the juice it holds is very little, and that limits the power you can vape at. If you want unlimited power to vaping I would suggest doing rebuidable tanks like the Odysseus or similar rebuidable products that use silica wicks, namely the new ones out are 3.5mm thick, compared to a Vivi nova it's roughly about 9 times thicker, so you can imagine how much more juice you can vaporize at one go. There're also videos that show you how to re-wick your Vivi Nova with thicker wicks on youtube that you could try out. I would say from what I've read it's definitely not your juice problem, dry, scratchy hits are a result of either the juice isn't wicking right or the power your vaping at is too high for the amount of juice that is being held around and close to the coiled area of the wick. Hope this helps.
Tell ya what, you may want to go to a bottom feeder.
I am one of those people who can't vape polyfill or wicks. Moved to bottom feeder, got RID of all those things standing between me and my juice. Atomizer, juice, battery , mod........that's it.
VG juice or mostly VG, thinned with distilled water.
I'm happy now.
Tracking down exactly "what" is bothering you is hard. That's why I just went in this direction
PG enhances TH and lung hit and is also an irritant in regards to the throat and lungs. Standards in the industry are 70/ 30 or 80/ 20 PG/ VG but some have a sensitivity to PG and vape a higher VG juice. Also if your Gripper is VV you may want to turn the voltage down. Some juices taste great at a low voltage while others really shine at a higher voltage. Try going from a low voltage and move up until you hit your sweet spot. I would most definitely only buy from a vendor that lists and/ or gives you a PG/ VG ratio choice.
IMHO - Since you're having the issue with the same PV and the same juice that wasn't giving you a problem before, the only thing that changed in the equation is the head aging. I think its called "Occam's Razor" the simplest reason is usually the correct one. I'd try swapping the head out for a new one and see if the problem is solved. Also, you might try cleaning the old head before you toss it out, maybe the coil is just gunked up...
When I got my prosmokes I never had this issue. And I believe their juice is 100% VG from johnson creek. So I may look into getting a definite whole VG based juice on my next order.
I usually vape between 3.0v and 4.0v.. Primarily 3.7.
Maybe I'm vaping "too low" for a 2.8ohm nova head?
But this has happened on brand new heads.. Actually, I don't believe a single one of my heads is nearly halfway to it's life expectancy. I never had this problem with my Prosmokes, I never had this problem when I was using the Gripper and these juices "and" going through detox. But now that my detox is over, it might just be affecting me more.
I'm still not really sure, I have alot of things to troubleshoot. Re-wick to cotton and get 100% VG juice will be my first 2.
Another $50 order on all VG juice of various flavors.
Now what to do with all this PG juice.. Isn't there a classifieds section on this site? I can't find it for the life of me.
Wishing the very best of luck to you. To use the Classies you have to become verified. Some complain BUT it was becoming a scammer's heaven with many good people getting ripped off.
