i would like to know if coughing up bile is normal for cleaning the insides, as when i inhale i cough profusely no mater the length like 1-3 secs. i'm using innokin cool fire 4 with 0.5 ohms coil heads, vaping at 20watts.

When did you quit smoking? If recent, this is normal. The cillia in your lungs are returning to function and cleaning out the smoking crap. It's gross but will stop soon enough.

I would suggest a Kanger subtank mini, you can purchase the 1.2 ohm coils for it, or try your hand at building your own (the subtank comes with a mini rba to build on, as well as the option to use occ coils, use the mini rba to build whatever ohm you want), I too prefer a cool vape and regularly run mine around .15ohm at 18-20 watts, wrapping your own coils isn't difficult and can save you a ton of money, rather than spending 3 dollars on each pre-made coil that will last you a week or two, spend 6 dollars on 100 feet of wire and a couple bucks for some cotton, that will last you a year or two, about the phlegm issue, I vaped 18mg on an Ego-One, but when I upgraded to the Kanger Subtank Plus and the Zephyr Buddha I found anything over 6mg caused lung issues.

Bile can be coughed up due to GERD, so it is not coming from the respiratory tract but is from the stomach, this is known as acid reflux. One good way to determine is if you have heartburn, acid indigestion. The mucus in the throat/esophagus picks up some bile from the upper digestive tract then coughed and/or vomited up.

But it has nothing to do with vaping.

Actually, my reflux is activated by vaping certain flavorings. esp if I swallow any of the ejuice :)

I would second that if you just quit cigarettes you are coughing up old tar and smoke gunk. The first month after I quit, after I woke up in the morning and got in a hot shower, I would hack up lots of gross stuff. I just assumed my lungs were cleaning out and it has gone away and now I can walk up stairs without being out of breath.

The Nautilus is a great choice for beginners. You have to remember that, vapor is thicker than smoke. So it's almost like when you started smoking, there will be coughing and phlegm. You need to take smaller steps, when getting used to vapor. Using a sub-ohming tank can be a bit much. The Nautilus is easier on the throat and lungs, since it requires you to mouth-to-lung draw (like a cigarette). Hold on to the tank you have now, though. It won't be long before you're ready for it. I use RDAs and sub tanks now, but I still use the Nautilus, for when I need to be discrete with my vape. And once you do go back to the sub-tank, drop the nic. At least to a 6mg. Otherwise, the nic can be too strong and harsh. Another reason for the cough, as well.

i do have acid reflux as i am on omeprazole here in the uk,

If you are not already doing this, recommend if you sleep on your back that you use more than one pillow so your torso is elevated. There are cup like devices that can be put under the legs at head of bed to elevate that part. If you are a side sleeper, right side is best as far as GI function goes with reflux. It is possible that while you are asleep you are refluxing and that fluid is leaking into your airway. This is not good. Use gravity to your benefit. Hopefully your doc has taught you what you need to know about reflux prevention. An R.N. here, can't help but teach, lol. It's been a way of life for almost 30 years.

i got the acid reflux because i was taking anti inflammatory tablets to get rid of a bad leg, and i did not know that i was allergic to them so over time i was vomiting and the acid kept on building up. now it is under control i still take tablets for it to be on the safe side, but one cause of it can sometimes be smoking too many cigarettes

about sleeping on your side to control acid reflex... I'm pretty sure it's your LEFT side you want to sleep on, since your stomach is on the left. This makes the path from the stomach to the esophagus an UPHILL path instead of downhill.

about the kanger subtank mini - this is actually a decent starter tank because it can use 1.2 or 1.5 ohm coils in addition to the subohm coils. You don't have to build your own. But it's easy to use, pretty reliable, and when/if you're ready for rebuilding, it can do that too!!

I cannot imagine subohming with anything higher than 12mg (I am actually using 6mg now, on a subtank mini with 0.5 ohm coil) - I'd probably choke to death!

No doubt...There are over a dozen ways to trigger reflux, but bile is another issue not caused by vaping.:)

Which is why when people use terminology like "bile" or "reflux" nobody on a vaping forum can diagnose them, and why they should seek a doctor who can get up close and personal to determine exactly what they are experiencing.

There was a gal on here 2 years ago who had a mouth sore that turned out to be cancer. It wasn't from vaping of course.

But it just goes to prove that diagnosing strangers on the internet thru a forum post isn't ideal. And while mouth sores "may" be a sign of getting off cigs and starting to vape, one can never be sure. Any changes in ones body, mouth, throat, esophagus, etc. should be evaluated by a doctor. We were all smokers once and will always be particularly at risk for certain things.

I was just going to chime in with same. Different juices can trigger acid reflux for me. Just like with food you will learn which juices do this. I find if I avoid trigger juices at night I am good to go. Welcome and best of luck with your vape journey.

Adding this in.... Kattmamma is correct with left side sleeping for relief. There are so many triggers for acid reflux that it is very difficult to know exactly what causes it every single time, best if you see a doctor if it continues. Acid reflux isn't just an annoyance it can cause very serious problems. I had gerd so badly it scarred my vocal chords and I had to have them scraped. Please do not take any of our words as medical advice. :)
