Do you have a saddle valve handy? You can get one from lowes or home depot pretty cheap.
You could, but you will most likely bend the carto to a point where it won't fit into the tank or will get it stuck in there.
When using carto+ tank all I use is a hammer and nail BUT have worked in construction all my life. Vaping 60/ 40- 80/ 20 PG/ VG. Punch 1 hole 2.5 mm wide. The key is to have a very sharp nail and to hit it hard and quick in a controlled manner.

Absolutely, you can, and risk deforming the carto. Best case scenario would be to toss a deformed carto. Worst case scenario is installing it and having it leak e-juice all over your device.

I tried and it's not worth the time. I didn't sharpen my nail so maybe that was my problem. Still not worth the time.
Don't be penny wise and dollar foolish, go to an air conditioner supply store or graingers and spend 4 dollars on a bullet valve and save yourself from ruining cartos. It will last for a couple hundred cartos at a minimum.

You could use a nail but I recommend the Siam Mods V2 carto punch available from Phiniac. This produces bigger holes than a saddle valve and is easier to use. It has an extended length 9mm bore that doesn't distort cartos a lot. I punch four holes for heavy VG juice with this thing.
Four nice punches all along the bottom of the carto where they belong. Done with the Siam Mods V2 carto punch.
Seriously? You just clean it out after drilling. It really isn't more complicated than that. You can do it with a Dremel tool and small bit. Just make sure it's dry inside before you drill.
You won't ever be able to remove all the metal dust from inside, especially from a porous material.
Ok, perhaps I am missing something here. I admit I am new to vaping and so may not be aware of everything involved, but I would think simply washing the thing out after drilling should remove all of the dust.
so all these people who have been slotting with a dremel and driving metal dust into the filler are going to die...of old age.
I doubt it, not sure of the burning point of the metal dust from the type of cartos they were using, but it's never a good idea to inhale metal fumes. I doubt you would suck any metal dust into your mouth once the filler material has been saturated though and would probably never make it's way close enough to the coil.
The point is why use a carto contaminated with steel dust if you don't have to? It's a lot faster and easier to use a good carto punching tool. It's less expensive too, unless you already have a Dremel or power drill. I have both, and still use a carto punch.
Tried using a drill press. You'd have to use a tiny drill bit or use a modified nail. Also if you go too deep the filler gets "sucked up" into the drill bit. Also produces a very rough edge around the hole that can damage the tank.
