First, I want to state that I’m not trying to scare anyone but honestly want others opinions. I’m not one to usually be concerned with some of those questionable ingredients. It’s fine if you are and I respect that, but I’ve done the research and am not personally worried. I’m only mentioning this because TFA pie crust does have another questionable ingredient. Though, in this thread I’d like to only focus on one... furfuryl alcohol. Id like to know if anyone doesnt use this flavor for this reason alone or if you do use it and are not concerned. Im just interested in your thoughts concerning. Thank you in advance!

Contains Furfuryl alcohol which may cause cancer. See Furfuryl Alcohol

The listing you posted was from a California site. I'm not saying the information may not be valid (I don't know much about the chemical itself) but I do know that California lists everything that isn't nailed down (and some things that are) as a cancer causing agent. I'm interested in knowing more, but not ready to google yet. :) Maybe someone will chime in with more.

CA has done a grave disservice with this. Whenever I see something listed as a cancer causing agent, I almost want to deem it "safe" by default.:lol: I know that's probably wrong in at least some cases, and like I said, I want to know more. IDK also at what sort of "ingestion/exposure" rate one would need to be worried, as it's sometimes a dosage/total exposure effect. But I will be keeping an eye on this thread...

I certainly don’t believe everything I read online! I agree with the saying, “believe nothing you hear and half of what you see”. This is why I brought this here rather than jumping to conclusions. Every time I hear something negative about anything vape or DIY oriented, I want to fully understand it for all it’s worth either way. Then I can come to my conclusion.

If, in the end, it's pie crust that takes me out, I don't think that I can ask for anything more.

You're quite right would be like going out right after hot sex.

To be honest I have given up on it I remember as a kid hearing on the news margin, eggs, and whole milk are bad for you and will kill you. Now margin is worse for you than butter. The simple fact is the air we breathe every day is full of carcinogens, but I can't hold my breath for the rest of my life. That big yellow ball of death causes cancer but no one is trying to ban it, in fact, I get told you need to go out more spend some time in the sun...

I have stopped worrying about it. Today they say it may give me cancer next year they may say we are wrong not doing that will give you cancer. I say let us fight the real cancer Facebook!

This isn’t a specialist but just another, like us, researching. Though this isn’t only about the current topic as he’s trying to figure a personal issue.

My husband knew a woman that happened to (her BF died after a fun exchange) I really think if someone is dying after hot sex, it should be both folks (and not a long, slow asphyxiated death by the other person being large and crushing them to the bed, etc. :)

I do think it's good to post that stuff and get to your own level of comfort with it. I do my best to avoid diketones and stuff but I don't go full on freak out about it either.

Everyone's different, I did google and find this link. IDK how relevant it is and still am not quite awake enough to understand most of it, but at least it's an attempt to see how (relatively) toxic this may be, using animal studies that are available. I always love it when things start out with "relative toxicity" because many things that are perfectly harmless at the right dose, can be more harmful at a different dose. I hope it makes some sense to you, @NatashaTMT ! I also tend to have a bit of trust in the NIH, but both my parents worked for them at different points in their lives, heck, even I did for a few years out of college.

Thanks for sharing! So, based on this link, furfuryl alcohol can cause cancer when administered in an X dosage for X number of days. I’m convinced, atm, the chances of getting cancer by using a flavoring containing it, every now and then, are probably slim. IF I used it more often or regularly I’d definitely be more concerned. I just don’t have enough facts, atm, to say for sure that furfuryl alcohol will or will not cause cancer when vaped in X frequency, etc. I’m sure there’s a lot of things we probably come into contact with which could cause cancer if X + Y ect, ect... But the question is, do the pros outweigh the cons of subjecting myself to a known cancer pathogen? There are other options. I think I’d like to further research.

I don't know either but I tend to avoid things I can't pronounce on any labeled product. furfuryl alcohol would be something I don't actually need anyway.

However, Prop 65 lists just about every chemical known to man as causing cancer.

At my age I'm gonna beat cancer to the finish line but it might be a close race. :D

Sort of like the CT radiation dose suggestions? Don't get over this many in your lifetime, unless you're old, then you can get as many as you want as often as you want.

First time I had to be “put under” for surgery, the anesthesiologist ( no bedside manners) said, “the odds of dying under anesthesia are about like, say, having a truck hit your house.”

And I said, “well, a truck DID hit my house, so...?”

But yeah, it’s good to be aware that there may be a risk, assess if it’s worth it, and avoid those you can. I use certain flavors sparingly.

I bet that doctor never used that example again especially since he has no idea how frequently trucks hit houses

o_OWell, that’s comforting! Thats pretty crazy:eek: I’m assuming this was his dry sense of humour? Bad joke dude!

If I could easily get along without it, I would scrap it. If I really loved it and felt it would leave a sad empty hole in my life, I'd probably keep using it.

I believe I have to agree with you both here. Being we have other options, why subject ourselves? Great link @lil_buddy ! I was still somewhat on the fence but after reading that, I hoped on over. For me personally, I will not be mixing using TFA pie crust. Cancer already runs in my family strong enough as it is. So it’s an important topic to me.

Everyone who shared, I really do value my fellow ECF users opinions. Thank you!
