I actually ordered TPA watermelon 10ml with my last order. I have TPA koolada and Ethyl Maltol. I do not have the peppermint, but I have inw natural mint and cap cool mint I can sub. Looking forward to trying this one out!
I may cut down the 15% on the watermelon, unless it’s necessary for it to be that high.
INW-Natural Mint would be an interesting sub for TFA-Peppermint; I would think this will provide more of a "watermelon mojito" type of profile. I find TFA-Peppermint to be a very sweet hard candy type of peppermint (think candy cane) while INW-Natural Mint is a lot like chewing on a fresh mint leaf. (To
me that is; as always "your mileage may vary").
I don't know how long you have been doing your own DIY, or how familiar you are with using EM, but I personally am not a fan of its use as a "sweetener." As a sweetener, too much is needed (say, compared to TFA-Sweetener (sucralose), or vape-quality stevia), and can really mute, or muddle, a flavor profile. Don't get me wrong, EM
can have a place, for adding a touch of body, or moistness, or even taking off some unwanted sharp notes; but
generally not as a sweetener.
For this recipe, if I didn't have a true sweetener, I would first mix with out a substitute. Mix, shake, and then vape a small amount to get an idea of its profile (this should be a shake-n-vape recipe; no aging, heat, or open top "breathing" required). You may find it is good without any additional sweetening.
But, if you think it could benefit from a little more sweetness, I would measure off a small amount (maybe three milliliters to 5mL at most), and add to
only that small sample one or two drops of EM, give it another shake, and taste (vape) test it again. Did it help, or hurt, the initial mix? If it is no better, or worse, then you haven't ruined the whole batch. If it is better, and you think it could be even better with more, add another drop to your small sample (keep track of how many drops you add, so you can make notes, and adjust your recipe: 1 drop per milliliter of sample is going to be somewhere in the vicinity of 3-4%, based on actual drop size and size of sample. So, in a 3-5 mL sample that same 1 drop is somewhere around 0.6-1.33%). You can keep repeating, until it is to your liking, or it begins to hurt the overall flavor. (As a side note: this experiment is also good for helping you to understand how useful EM may, or may not, be to your personal palate.)
A final thought on additives (like EM) in general; ECF community member
@dannyv45 wrote a very helpful tutorial a while ago, and was good enough to post it on his blog. You can
check it out here at your leisure.
Let us know how it turns out; best of luck!
