its from mixing two lithium cells of different charge states

talk to the flashlight guys

one cell very very rare to explode


nice to see someone who knows the cause... i read all kinds of threads at CPF the flashlight fourm to figure that and alot of other battery info out!

ignorance is bliss till an atty shoots down your throat and you get frag all in your face8-o8-o

Protected & LiFePO4s are where its at. CR2's don't come in 'protected' but you can find em as LiFePO4s. Crappier mAh compared to unprotected though. I also suggest using a battery case. Last week I put a couple spare batteries into my pocket with my car keys & when I reached into my pocket I realized the batts were pretty damned hot! I imagine my keys were touching both the positive & negative sides. When I discovered this I put them into two separate pockets with nothing else in em & checked em on a multimeter when I got home. They were still perfectly high charged so despite almost melting my crotch I didn't loose any charge on em. I ordered a case the next day & swear by em now, LOL.
