Man, came so close to buying a pack of smokes today!:( I was heading to the supermarket today, and, for the first time in 7 weeks, I thought about buying cigarettes. I wanted one so bad, I could taste it - I'm sure a lot of you guys can relate.

My typical e-liquid is 18mg 50/50 PG/VG, but I recently received some 12mg 20/80 PG/VG - I wanted to try to lower my nic level, and I've never had more that 50% VG in any juice, so I thought try both at once. This is what I've been vaping for the past couple of days, but looks like I need to switch back, at least to 18mg - might try 18mg 20/80 PG/VG. One of the reasons I wanted to try less nic and more VG was to lessen the throat hit - chain vaping the 18mg 50/50 was irritating my throat a bit. My first vape of the morning would start me coughing if I took too big a hit.

Anyway, just wanted to put it out there. Gimme your support, I need it today!:)

How long did you smoke?

Trying to rush this process doesn't work out well and the longer your smoking history the more true that is. If anything, you may still be in a phase where an occasional bump up in nicotine is required, not the other way 'round.

As a 30 year 2 PAD smoker I was still experiencing cravings here and there for my first 18 months. They do get to be less and less frequent and the intensity of the cravings gets weaker over time as well. Now? I can't even recall the last time I had even a semi-serious craving.

So... don't push too hard. The real damage comes from the "smoke" part of smoking. The nicotine from vaping has very few health consequences in comparison.

Oh, see my banner numbers down there? It's all true. If I can finally do it for this long after smoking for 30 years anyone can. Vape more, up your nic level temporarily if you need to. Even a sudden change in flavors is a good way to deal with a craving fit. One of the best things about vaping is the flexibility - don't be afraid to use it.

It takes a while for your lungs to get used to the vapor first thing in the morning. Probably a few months for me. Now it's no problem.

I would suggest tiny hits or even fill the mouth with vapor and just hold it for a bit then do a French inhale. Most of the nic is absorbed through the soft tissues in your mouth and nose anyway.

Keep up the good work! You got this! :)

I stuck with 24mg for the first two years. I also smoked an ultra light cig after each meal and with coffee. I was a reluctant quitter, but finally made the decision to do that on my second anniversary vaping. It was a non event when I just didn't buy another pack. I could have quit much sooner and didn't realize it, but it does take some time for the physical addiction to subside.

You may have tried to quit too quickly and need some higher nic juice for a while. At the 7 week point, you should be free of the tobacco addiction, but still suffering the psychological effects of quitting smoking. WTA juice (whole tobacco alkaloids) might be the cure. Madvapes Tobacco might be the something you'd want to try in an 18mg to 24mg strength.

Madvapes doesn't call it a WTA product, but there's a secret ingredient in their house brand Tobacco that forms a dark ring at the top of the bottle after sitting for a day. They call it their proprietary ingredient. When you shake the bottle it dissolves and goes away. At any rate, it's the closest thing I've found to a real cigarette experience outside of Halo Torque56. There is a significant throat hit associated with it, though. It's a little of a Cowboy flavor to me.

Hang in there. You'll shake it and move on to calmer waters. Vape heavy when you feel the urge. Wait a few minutes for the effect to take place. A cigarette provided instant gratification. Vaping takes longer to get into your system because it's absorbed through the mucous membranes, not the lungs.

24 years, quit 7 weeks ago on doctor's orders, otherwise I'd still be smoking. Haven't really missed it until yesterday.

When you get that kind of urge chain vape for 10-20 mins. May also consider upping your nic level.

Yep, still have a bunch of 18mg juice from my first burst of vaping enthusiasm. Vaping Cinnamon Roll from Mt Baker Vapor as I type!

It really does get better over time. I'm glad that you made it past the craving - another victory for you!

Glad you got past the craving. Way to go! I still think about it. I mean it was a habit/addiction for 20 years for me. When I get the thought I immediately pick up my vape and start puffing. I smoked menthol and I usually throw it on there and puff. Good luck and stay strong!

Way to go on not giving in. I was a 35 year smoker 2pad--I still occassionally think "maybe it would be nice to have a smoke." the thing is I know it will taste horrible. but that little nagging voice in my head occassionally still calls out and I have to yell back "SHUT UP!"

Thanks all!

Thanks for the info. I'll take a look at it, but I'm not typically a tobacco e-liquid user. I tried a few in the beginning, looking for the Marlboro replacement, but didn't enjoy them, and almost quit vaping because of them. Glad I continued and tried other flavors!

Thanks for everyone's support! I was still jonesing a bit when I started this thread last night/early morning - doing a lot better now that I'm back to my original nic level. I was trying to lower my nic level because of a misguided attempt to rush myself to the lowest level I needed to get by, but last night was a close call. My wife isn't too happy with the amount I've been spending on new toys :), but she's very happy that I don't smell like cigs anymore!

Congratulations on keeping away from them, posting here is much better for you, and we've all been (or still are) there.

I can tell you this, after a month of vaping and staying away from cigarettes I broke down and bummed one from a housemate. I smoked about 1/4" (3-4 drags) and promptly threw up. Can't smoke analogues anymore, even if I wanted to.

took me six months to quit smoking. i smoked 22 years. during that 6 mos i had 2-3 cigs a day. then one day, i just felt that i didnt want one.

i dont see a need to reduce nic levels at all. i started vaping at 18 mg 6 years ago, and am still there. nicotine isnt bad for you, unless you do waaaaaay too much. im prepared to go zero nic if the FDA makes it a PITA to deal with nicotine ejuice. for me, it's the inhalation and exhalation of something smokey. the nic is really just a bonus at this point.

Don't be afraid of 36mg nicotine - at least starting out. Even at this higher level you'll probably get less nicotine in your system than you do smoking because your body absorbs "vaped" nicotine differently. (Unless you drip maybe).

Most people try to mimic their smoking habits when they first transition to vaping. I'd advise anyone starting out with intentions to quit smoking completely to put themselves in a position to chain vape as much as possible. (i.e., a period of days where constraints on your time are minimal).

Also, this might sound bizarre but try starting with cartomizers. They require zero maintenance (no parts), seldom fail and deliver what I think is a cigarette style vape (whatever that is). If you can, mount them on a VV device so you can adjust the strength of your "hits" to match your mood/needs at the time. You can move on to advanced accessories later on when the smokes are a thing of the past.

And boy... listen to me. Hindsight is always 20/20. :D

7 weeks?
1. Congratulations on making the switch! :thumb:
2. Slow down on decreasing the nic please. Do yourself this favor and slow down. Please.

In 1976 Professor Michael Russell wrote: “People smoke for nicotine but they die from the tar.”

You have no tar now. No need to hurry decreasing the nic content if it makes you crave cigarettes with, yes, tar.

Some advice from me:

You can mix the 18 and the 12 half and half in your PV to get 15, if you wish to lower your nic a little because the 18 is getting too much.
You can also mix a strong-tasting tobacco liquid with a nice sweet liquid (vanilla, caramel etc) in your PV to get that lovely sweet cigarillo flavor. That really hits the spot :)

And I fully agree with Rickajho (100 % vaper here, since 4 Nov 2011):
