i got a little dipper crockpot , it heats up the water to 140 degrees Fahrenheit.
i can fit about three glass dripper bottles sanding up.
i am just starting my DIY juice experiments , with the pg/vg/nic already mixed and im just adding flavoring.

is it safe for me to use this as a device to steep ?? how long should i keep the bottles in the little dipper ? do i leave the bottles closed or open ?

i was also interested in a ultrasonic cleaner , can someone recommend me one for about $35
??

In my own personal experience with DIY...I don't use heat steeping at all. If anything I make needs to steep to suit my own tastes (maybe 10% of my eliquids), it does it in its closed bottle, in a cabinet in the house. I'll give it a shake about once a day, but that's it. I'll taste and vape test a few drops about every 3-4 days until it makes my taste buds happy, so to speak, then it's done.

It's a little different though, if a flavoring I used has ethyl alcohol in it. For me, EA has to be removed before I can vape it, or I'll get a headache almost immediately. So, I shake the heck out of the bottle of my mix, and leave the cap off it, to let all the little bubbles rise to the top and evaporate. Several hours later... I'll shake it vigorously again, creating more bubbles, and leave it uncapped. I do this 3-4 times a day for about 3 days. It's usually a nice, smooth-tasting mix by then, and I get no headaches vaping it.

Whether you really need to steep something, or not, is mainly a personal preference, since everyone's taste is different. It sometimes depends on several factors in addition to personal taste, too. The types of flavorings used in them is often a determiner. Most who DIY will agree that eliquids made with tobacco or custard flavorings require steeping of some kind, to be their best. A second determiner is whether or not the flavorings contain ethyl alcohol. Most agree that it needs to be evaporated off, before you vape the eliquid, not only for better taste, but because EA isn't good for the lungs. Some people who DIY just regularly steep all eliquids they make. You'd need to get one of them to tell you why though, from their point of view and experience. I can't offer ideas or reasons for that.

One last tip: Don't make DIY any harder nor more expensive for yourself than it needs to be. You don't need to get expensive equipment, gadjets, supplies, etc. to make great eliquids for yourself. Make DIY something you enjoy doing, that saves you money, and allows you to always have eliquids that are custom-made to your liking.

Edit: By the way, if you see later that your discussion has been moved from General Vaping...it's because it's really about DIY E-Liquids. A mod will usually move it there, rather than leave it here.

@towncarblue I use hot water most of the time to speed up the infusion by thinning the liquid. I use Hot Tap water for about an hour or so. As soon as the mixture clears is all that is required at least from my experience. Never exceed 150°F.

I'm pretty much the same. I use a hot water bath just to make it easier to shake and assure thorough mixing. I don't really use it to speed the steeping process, more the mixing process.

I'm not familiar with the little dipper crock pot but as long as it's designed to run a few hours straight it should work just fine. Usually 3 - 4 hours at 140F is all that's needed for steeping.

When steeping leave the bottles capped and don't let the water in the crock pot get to low.

If you already have a crock pot I don't see the need for a UC they both work equally as well.

Using hot tap water cuts time to heat the water in a crock pot which to me is too time consuming. No need to slow cook your e-Liquids.

i recently bought a ultrasonic cleaner , the Famili FM8000WW
from amazon , $27 . im not even too sure it worked.
i set it up next to me while watching a movie { 2 hours } and kept resetting
it every 6 minutes. no difference in flavor at all, next day did it again for 2 hours, still no difference.
im just gonna stick to the little dipper for now.
the little dipper stays on until i unplug it. i just put the bottles in { i can fit 3} facing up with no cover
and leave it there for about 2 hours , uncapping and shaking every hour. i notice a stronger flavor but not by
much. the stepping does make the juice taste better after a week vs three weeks or so.
