Just stopping to post on this strange MTL RTA. When functioning properly it gives me one of the best MTL vapes I have had. Yes every once in a while it does get gurgly for me but I have mentioned in earlier posts ways to reduce that to almost non existent. I have found this guy likes 3mm coils as it needs that extra cotton to keep from over saturating. For me it has been very important I comb my wick tails out because of the amount of cotton I need to use to keep it wicking properly also do not cut your tails at an angle they need to be flat. I fill my wicking channels up with wick and make sure it is full and securely in the wicking channel as for some reason with this tank I have had the tails pop out of the channels a couple of times so making sure it's securely in the channel is important. I cannot stress enough to make sure the cotton is fully filling that wicking channel now it does not need to be stuffed or crammed in there and should actually be nice and fluffy (again this is where combing your tails out is important) also when filling it make sure to fill it up past the kidney shaped fill ports. Remember to shut your jfc by screwing the tank down (the jfc does not work 100% on this tank but it helps) and to close off your airflow control also. Even after all of this some people report problems so I am assuming there might have been some issues with some of the tanks but I really love mine and I am picking up another.

I'm never on here anymore but I had to stop back and comment on how ... impressed I am with the Cthulu MTL.

I'm one of those people who vapes it all as far as style goes. I usually have a few MTL RTAs, restricted DL RTAs and a few drippers going every day. Normal daily rotation for the last year or so consists of a Kayfun V5, Hurricane V1.3, BilletBox Rev4 (modified racing bridge), Narda, and Drifter RDAs. I've vaped it all in between and I always come back to those stellar experiences. After spending some time with the Cthulu MTL I can honestly say It will be in my every day rotation... and probably even replace my trusty old Cane 1.3!

This thing is good, DAMN good! Build quality is great, threading is awesome (though a little sharp in areas)... Kayfun V5-esq deck design is superb (screws could be better) and the restrictors work extremely well.

I've settled on a super simple, 26 gauge 5/6 wrap that checks in at .8X's ohm. The vape is dense, the airflow is nicely restrictive and very smooth... it really does feel like a modified Kayfun V5 (my current favorite flavor tank)! No leaking or gurgling etc if built properly either. I just cant see how it would if you put the proper amount of cotton in it. I'm super impressed with this little guy. Any MTL or restricted DL vapers who love dense flavor need to go out and buy this thing. Really, just go buy one!

So I got my 2nd back up a black Cthulhu MTL and I don't know if it's because it's a newer batch and they have the tolerances down better or I just got so used to having to build my original stainless versions a certain way to not be gurgly but this one is vaping fantastic. I am not having to fiddle or fill it a certain way. It is vaping fantastic and when this little guy is vaping good I think the flavor is better then the merlin mini(really the only other tank I can fairly compare it to as they are both 24mm MTL tanks that rely on inserts to restrict the airflow) and is one of the best MTL vapes I have had I am so excited that this black one is performing like a champ....
Edit
On my 5th refill not even the slightest bit of gurgle so yeah I want to say they did something.

I wish I had read this thread a couple of weeks ago! I've been using it with only the largest restrictor because of the gurgling thing, but I"m about to rebuild it with the 1.6mm one and try it again...I really like it as a restricted lung hitting tank. Mine, no. 37xx, when the top is fully screwed into the bottom, the juice flow control is open, which makes it super easy to control, just twist it back a little to close off the juice. Maybe that's a small improvement that they've made. I'm eager to try it as a real MTL. I think Phil made a mistake in his vid; if you are using single wire, and you wrap around the screw, and into the slots next to the screws, you can eliminate the worry of shorting out against the chimney. I really like this little bugger, so much that I fill it several times a day. The Gaia, which I got at the same time, has better flavor, and is probably the best flavor tank I've ever used, but the MTL *should* have better flavor with the smaller restrictor, I think. Thanks for sharing your experiences, guys, it really helps to read others' recommendations. I do wish that I didn't have to take my build out to put the new restrictor in, but that's no big deal.

do you know what is the difference between them? thx.
They appear identical and there is no new O-rings or anything different really so it leads me to believe that they have dialed in the tolerances on the machining much tighter as my black one does not require all the little tricks I needed on the stainless to keep from the occasional gurgling. It could be the actual black coating that Has just tightened the tolerances up or it could be just my unit. All I know is it has really turned the Cthulhu MTL RTA from a good MTL RTA to one of if not my favorite mini MTL atomizers.
