Curious about connection

I have three Buzz Pro's and really like them. But one thing I don't understand is the connection to my cartomizer. It has a phillips screw head in it rather than being flat and smooth as all my other devices. 1) Why is there a phillips screw in there? 2) Is there any special maintenance to this ... like taking a screw driver and making sure it is tight? 3) How can you thoroughly clean it with that thing in the connection?

No maintenance, the screw is the positive contact, acts the same as the flat middle part you're use to seeing.
