Hey all,
First - I heart my BCV BFM mod. It's the greatest. With a Zenith atty on top... man... just great. Here's the thing... Since these types of mods have the hybrid/atty adapters instead of a proper topcap/510 pin the atty threads come remarkably close to the top of the battery. What is the danger level of this?

I ask because I'd like to get one of the new Patriot 26650s but Patriots do not have an adjustable pin built in. My Zenith does so I extend it down a bit to provide a little space between the batt and the atty 510 threads.

I've seen pics of people using Patriots on XXIXs but such a small gap has me a bit worried. Should I be?

I would only be concerned with atty's that don't have a long center 510 pin. Today I almost bought a "Big Dripper" but the 510 didn't even protrude from the negative side - this is a problem with these newer mods that make direct contact from the 510 to the battery.

Go with atty's that have an adjustable 510 and make sure it is a good 1mm longer than the threads.

^^ (referring to the quote)
As long as the positive pin is protruding from the 510 base and insulator you should be fine. Simple mechanics as crxess stated.
^Referring to RickCain
Not all 510s will have one that protrudes. Not all were built with a hybrid in mind; however, we may see a change in that soon becuse people need their mods HELLA FLUSH XXX SWAG

One of my main rules of thumb (as I have heard it mentioned in person and read it on here) with hybrid connectors is: Always screw hybrid adapter onto atty prior to putting it on the mod.

I follow this rule and typically have learned what attys work with hybrid and what ones don't. If one doesn't, I just use another that does. :)

Hi smelly
I too have the BFM and the Stillare RDA I use on it did not have a protruding pin either. But it was a simple fix by taping down the center pin a bit ..bottom pin now extends about 1mm and works great in that hybrid BFM top cap.. I'm pretty sure you could do the same for all non adjustable flat pin RDA's, including the patriot

Anyone else worried about arcing? Especially if we're talking about setups with 10 - 20 amps in the "circuit" and in some cases with only like a 0.5mm gap between a small and flimsy atomizer positive pin and the surrounding 510 threaded cylinder -- both of which are un-insulated and likely to warm up a bit every time we take a toot.

I get it, really I do. I mean, I know I've got boatloads of ~1mm polarity gaps inside most on my favorite RBA's. And I use them all every day. And yes, I am certainly a little afraid of the general unknown. Still, this case seems different when we're now plopping our tightly (and often poorly) toleranced 510 connectors straight down onto our little super-charged batteries. The MOD is where my bare hand is, helping to ground the whole circuit. ("But the atty is where your face is.") Which I still totally get, but somehow do not fear. It is just that, when I consider cases of manufacturer intended hybrids, like the Aqua and Origin, where the hybridding happens on the atty base and not in ModCap, that's when my fear begins to rise. They all move the negative contact points as far out as possible, which to me seems like suuuch a good idea - again, because this all happening right at the battery.

A person's Good Sense can certainly protect him, far better than any manufacturer's intention, so farbeit for someone else (like me) to say, " These things are too dangerous for any of us." so I wont. To each his own, etc....But man I sure do get the heebeejeebees when I see a 4:9 with any kind of fixed centerpin atty sitting on it.

I have no problems worrying about my battery shorting out using the hybrid top cap that came with my BFM..I do make sure the battery is not over tightened possibly putting a dimple in the top of the battery.. By the way, Bay City vapors has now available BFM 30 millimeter flat caps as well as a host of other parts for their mods on their website as of yesterday.. I ordered two flat caps for my BFM as they sell out fast

That BFM flat cap got here and I was wondering if indeed there is any more clearance between the bottom of the Stillare and the battery verses using the tapered cap.. I would imagine those distances are the same for both caps though.. Also I heard some people are putting their batteries in upside down for the stronger (less likely to dimple) negative batt end to be up touching the protruding pin .. I really don't know how safe that would be should a hard short occur. I just use my BFM the way it was designed to be used and don't worry so much about it.

I only like running fixed pins on my 4nine. I think they did a great job..I have an authentic, so if you have a clone..better be a good one.. there's a lot more attention needed with this style of mod..manufacturer and user.

The tolerances of the button to the tube have to be just right..in contact all around button, but able to slide up and down.. then there's the galvanic corrosion with the non copper mods. Most people don't understand that. 20 Amps flowing through a button of a male, the next hit will be nanovolts less from the first.. I'm thinking the female may be different.. haven't messed with it..I need to let my friend to play with mine and his at same loads and battery, to see which will oxidize faster..

I don't under stand your stance on fixed pins...I have yet have a fixed pin atty leak from 510..that's the real downside to these mods.

Did somebody say hybrid?

I cant get enough of this picture, that is why it is posted in 2 other threads... I actually should say I can't get enough of this setup; it is my mainstay @ home/ out in evening setup for past few days now.

If hybrid adapters didn't exist or were unsafe, I'd be stuck with a SS top cap ring in this setup. Thanks to hybrid adapters I can run this sleek looking beast. :D :2cool:
