I've successfully quit smoking and have been vaping for 37 days now , but ever since I started I feel that I don't get the same satisfaction and nicotine rush as I did with cigarettes. I started on 6 mg and went to 9 mg, the throat hit gets a bit harsh for me which is fine, but I don't feel the same satisfaction. I find that I use the vape way more than I did cigarettes and I don't want to go to 12 mg because the throat hit will be stronger than the 9 mg (though I've never tried it). so any tips on what to do? thanks.

P.S. A little background on my smoking history: I used to smoke 5-6 cigarettes a day (Marlboro Medium), My current vape is the Aspire Spryte.

What type of nicotine are you using?
Salt Nicotine (nic-salts) have a reduced ph level and significantly less throat hit than regular (freebase) nicotine, allowing people to comfortably use much higher nicotine levels (common salt-nic strengths in pod devices are often in the 25mg/ml - 50mg/ml levels).

I use regular freebase nicotine because salt nic is only available in higher strengths 30mg+ where I live and I feel that is too high:(

Google for 12mg or 18mg nicotine salts.. they do make salt juice in those strengths.

I am in a very similar situation to yours. I went cold-turkey on ciggs 8 weeks ago. I did it doing DL hits starting at 6mg. Then I tried 12mg and though it was more satisfying, I still was puffing an awful lot to overcome my craving. So I bought a bottle of Milkman Watermelon nic-salt @40mg nic and puffed MTL. Fortunately, one of the kits I bought came with a tank that was optimized for MTL (though I didn't realize it at the time). I won't say that it is as satisfying as an actual cigarette, it is much closer. Keep in mind that I was a two pack a day smoker for over 40 years, so no matter how you slice it, it's going to be a rough trip. I would recommend you try nic salts with a MLT tank. If you don't care for it, so be it. Anything is better than going back to ciggs...

agreed, its a bit stronger and presentations come with higher levels.... but isnt mean for chain vaping or tanks, salt nic was made for 1 thing, deliver amazing quantities of nicsalt to you on a couple of hits or puffs, useful for quitting smoking faster since nicotine satisfaction is on the go, also mostly used on high ohm but low-power devices, for example pods, which are personally the best vape complement, i do use also nic salt on a RTA besides my pods,

my experiment: MTL rta with a high ohm coil, low power and also temp control, nic rush is blasting! i did tried to emulate a pod with this experiment, using a mtl rta and low power mod (80W) .. then got mtl wire, SS to be precise, move my experiment to temp control, amazing! liquid consumption with nicsalt is pretty low with pods, then moved to my mod + mtl rta, liquid consumption raised but just a little, then on tcr ... liquid last a bit more, but tasted better, warm or cold vape according temp, is amazing,

so if you want to try nic salt, a old half cig package smoker uhm, well maybe 35MG salt nic with a decent pod such as rolo badge or suorin drop might be for you, just remember, pods + SaltNic arent for chain vaping, is nic satisfaction on the go!

What you describe is normal for new vapers. We absorb the nic differently than with smoking. You absorb the nic with vaping through your mucus membranes which is a slower delivery. Your body will get used to this and chain vaping is common during the transition. It helps to hold the vapor in your mouth for a moment and exhaling through the nose. Just give it time. Some vendors are now offering salts in lower mg, Google 12mg nic salts and you should get a few hits.

you will use your vape more than you smoked because you are replacing the nicotine with all the other additives and crap that were in cigarettes....it is normal to vape a lot more at first

that being said you could try nic salts at 25 - 50mg to help with those cravings

Welcome and well done for giving up.

I suspect that you need to switch to 30-36mg/ml nic salts. They are perfect for the device you are using and I can more or less guarantee that you will get the satisfaction you've been missing.

Freebase nic is absorbed much more slowly than salt nic/cigarettes which is why you feel the way you do. I can remember the same....something missing and yet you're definitely not climbing the walls wanting another cigarette.

Try the nic salts as above...that will do the trick :)

I'm probably coming in from left field here ... but here goes anyway.

Firstly, way back in the day, I switched from cigarettes when I could get through 60 unfiltered Brit Virginia a day to smoking a pipe. I smoked a pipe for many years, was a Mod on a pipe forum and wrote many articles on Falcon Pipes - hence the avatar which I kept when I switched to vaping. I have now been tobacco free for 3 and a half years and have no notion to go back.

We used to get a lot of guys trying a pipe to get off of cigarettes posting threads very similar to yours. I'll adapt the advice we gave them, which did work for many of them.

You have to get away from the idea that you are a smoker who is misssing something, and do the mental shift to the fact that you are a Vaper, not an ex smoker.

You maybe have to obsess a bit about how nice your devices are, how great they look and maybe even read up everything you can find about building your own coils in time and making your own very special e liquid.

It can be helpful to look at tecnique in vaping ... you aren't looking at a quick pull and an instant nic hit as you got with cigarettes, you are in the same slow game as pipe smokers. You maybe want to try a slow count of four as you draw, hold the vape in your mouth for a count of four and then let it out through your nose for again a count of four. This lets you injest the nic differently but as effectively IMHO.

Keep reading everything you can about vaping - immerse yourself in it and see how all that goes.

Finally, don't stint on the nicotine, be kind to yourself. There are many ways of vaping - sub ohm with low nic is flavour of the month now; personaly what worked for me was 18 strength juice vaped in a + 1 ohm coil running at 8 watts ) and bear in mind I was a 50 year plus smoking man) which gave a cooler vape and a bigger nic hit.

Nicotine per se isn't the killer - as the smoking cessation folk used to say - " You smoke to get nicotine, but its the smoke that kills you not the nicotine."

Vaping may feel a little harsh at first, it may even make you cough - Big Tobacco puts lots of additives into its products, some of which are designed to suppress the natural cough reflex.

I know you can beat this and so hope this helps - all the best!

The cigarette manufacturers add many chemicals to the tobacco to make it more addicting and to give more of a kick. There are some brands that don't have as many additives. Loose tobacco is, usually, additive free. Tobacco by itself contains many chemicals that you don't get with vaping.

Sad to say but, even with vaping, quitting can be very difficult for many. Keep vaping, it does get better with time.

I am one of those vapers who quit cigarettes…"by accident"...

After LOVING smoking for 50+ years...I had NO desire to quit and only got my first e-cig set-up to use in NO-Smoking stores/restaurants...

After I got the starter kit, filled it with ejuice and took a couple puffs...I put it right next to my pack of analogs...

Very surprising to me...every time since then (5+ years) that I've wanted to inhale some "smoke", exhale some "smoke" and get a hit of nicotine...I've picked up my e-cig...

But...after 4-5 months of vaping I noticed a (very subtle) "mental haze"...like things were a little "off"...

After I started alternating WTA-ejuices with nicotine-ejuices...the haze completely lifted...

I've found...for me...nicotine-6mg. is equivalent to WTA-18mg.(Umbavape)-24mg.(Aroma)…

Whole Tobacco Alkaloid WTA Eliquid Ejuice

so any tips on what to do? thanks.
Hang in there, you are just scraping the surface of possible solutions. You have posted in the new members forum, you are limited to the number of post in this forum.
re: New Members - "How many posts do I need to..."
In the future, you might want to post in the ECF forum most closely representing your question. Suggest posting in :General vaping discussion and chat, General Vaping Discussion
Often times, you may receive more knowledgeable/germane information from the membership in the above/appropriate forum. 37 days just vaping tells me that you are persistent and on your way to a solution. Part of vaping is all about you the vaper, being in control and the freedom to fix/tailor any aspect of vaping you feel you need to improve upon. You are in control. Could check:

36 mg nic salts give a satisfying Nic hit. However, I've tried a few flavours and the ones I find best are sweet flavours. Buttery shortbread biscuits is a flavour I'm digging right now.
I tried a fruity/tropical flavour same strength (36mg) but it was super harsh on the throat.
I'm very new to vaping.
Straight fruit juices tend to taste better at lower watts. Fruit & creams/desserts are smoother are higher watts.

BG, 1pack day, 10 years. HELP IAM NOT GOING BACK TO TAR AND PAPER
You have to allow for the transition time. Vaping only eases the detox, it does not eliminate the side effects. For many of us detox symptoms will last a few weeks, for others a few months and some are fortunate and they have very few detox issues. Vaping is a tool/crutch, not a cure. Patience is key for success.
