I appreciate that there are rules on this forum, considering the alternative..

I usually do a google search before I post a thread just to be sure no one has asked that specific question. A number of times I was directed to another vaping forum where they openly cussed, had offensive avatars etc, it was horrible. I'm glad we have the rules that are in place because it makes the vaping community look better in people's eyes. If I didn't find ecf when I started vaping and only had that other forum I saw I would develop a negative feeling towards the community in general and probably would of gave up vaping entirely.

Heh I've done that too.(bumped into other forums via, search) I thought for awhile that ECF was maybe a bit "stuffy" because I am certainly known to drop the off color word or two, and generally am not easily offended. Now,having said that I spend the vast majority of my time here. I like the professional way things are run and what I find to be an elevated level of discourse(well generally);). The structure has apparently led to a robust, varied, informative and enjoyable place to be in my opinion. It's not mine, I just get to enjoy it. Those who run the show ,make the rules - sounds pretty much like, everything else in life. I'm thrilled that the end result is something that from my perspective is high quality and really a lot of fun.
As for the original post I personally take that at face value, no reason not to from my experience. It's unfortunate but true, nothing this big can possibly remain free of least some minor drama. Never seems to intrude into my daily ECF experience, so I say they must be doing it right, and doing it pretty well.

Would you like to answer my question about ECF Forum Rules? Do they apply to staff?

I'd like to know this too.

Also some members have "Moderator" in their profile, then some initials after that like "ABC", "DEF, "XXX". Are they also part of the ECF 'staff'?? Like a real Moderator? And do the rules apply to them as well? I know some suppliers are moderators of their own forum but what about the others who have "Moderator" in their profile.?

If I were a supporting member could I, for example, put "Moderator of Where's Kent? thread" in my profile? :D Or is that term only handed out by ECF? And if it is only given out by ECF, then doesn't what that person does, reflect upon ECF? I'm sure many newbies and even some vets might think that person is a Moderator at the same level as say, Classy or Spaky.

If they are not ECF, then I'd suggest using another term for them so newbies and people ignorant of those things, like me :) ... aren't confused. Because IF there were a case to where that "Mod" said something odd, slanderous and threatening in a PM, then a person not knowing their status might very well think they are an ECF Mod and might not know exactly what to do. Even using the report line or reporting them to another Mod might seem like a violation against the rules of criticizing a "Moderator".

If there is a link in feedback or rules that defines these type of "Moderators" and what their relation is to ECF and how they would be handled according to the rules, I think that might help clarify for people like me that don't really know what their status is.

TIA.

I'm not sure if this helps...

But if you click on the Forum where a Thread is posted that at the bottom, it Lists the Mods for that Forum.

Thanks zoiDman.. that a start. Still think it should be another word if it's not an 'official mod' with full mod abilities wrt ECF as a whole...

Well I don't know about all other areas of ECF as I'm too busy modding the PIF (Pay it Forward) area. My title clearly states I'm a PIF Moderator - not an ECF Moderator. And yes I appear at the bottom of the PIF area main page as one of the mods. The sub-forum mods call upon the ECF mods, as needed, for administrative purposes. I don't recall any sub-forum moderator having ECF Moderator in their title (unless they "own" that sub-forum).

Moderators and Administrators

What are moderators and administrators?

Moderators oversee specific forums. They generally have the ability to edit and delete posts, move threads, and perform other actions. Becoming a moderator for a specific forum is usually rewarded to users who are particularly helpful and knowledgeable in the subject of the forum they are moderating.

Administrators are the people who have overall control of everything that happens on the board. They oversee how the board is styled, what forums to create and how to organize them, what information to require from members and who to appoint as moderators.

This is not a well defined area, IMO.

I found the above in FAQ, but there is more information spread around here and there, for instance in Contacts. But if you look at the mods who posted in this thread, their titles are not the same; some are "ECF Moderators," others are just "Moderators." And then there are specific forums' moderators, like "PIF Moderator" or "Moderator: WWB."

But when you look at the bottom of a page where the Mods are listed, their names are displayed in different colors; Red, Teal and Green. I believe the red ones are the Admin, the teal ones are ECF mods, not sure about the green ones...

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks beebop... I happen to know what PIF is ;) Great service here in ECF, imo. But I'm guessing not everyone does. Has anyone ever mistook you for an ECF mod? Sounds like you don't stray out of PIF much ;) I can understand that....

Thanks Katya... it's becoming clearer but again, a different name might avoid confusion for the unsuspecting. I know anything with 'Sith' is the dark side (jk)

Hmmm .... still no 'official answers' though??

Kent C to help you out.. and I hope this is still an official answer even though I am not official anymore

The best way to see who is ECF staff (I know there is another way, but this is the way I like :) ) is to go to the "new members sub-forum" and look at the moderators listed there... All ECF staff has mod authority there, and noone else does..

Social Group Mods.. have the authority over their social group, but not ECF.. so they are not ECF staff (unless there are still ECF staff that care for a Social Group)

Each Vendor that has a sub-forum has control over their sub-forum.. and has right over how it is handled (within ECF guidelines that is) ECF staff stay out of it unless it is an ECF violation.

Hope that helps

Katya.. I am not sure who you have an issue with (dont need to know) but if it is with a green or teal.. address the issue with one of the Admins (not oldsoldier directly) if that doesn't resolve it.. you could then go to Old soldier... but mostlikely the admin would bring it to him anyway.

If it is an issue with OS then send it to Roly...

Hope that helps....
