RY4... Amongst most vapors is considered legendary. With its foggy history, dozens of variations, and rumors of a rogue chemist hiding out in a cave somewhere in China. Clenched in his hands the stolen recipe of the "real RY4" so overtaken by the aroma that not even in the grips of his impeding death, would he set it free.
Ok, so I made that one up...
What is know, or at least generally accepted, is that RY4 was a flavor made by Chang Ning Dekang Biological Technology Co. for Ruyan Group Limited, the creator of the electronic cigarette. Dekang defines the RY series as so (slightly modified for better translation);
RY1: Very subtle mixture of Tobacco aromas
RY2: Taste dry tobacco, raw, with no sweet aftertaste
Ry3: Exceptional blend of tobaccos, slightly sweet taste quite indescribable
Ry4: Tobacco blend with the trends of caramel and vanilla
I read many of the rumors on RY4. Other reviews of "who has the best RY4", what is the real RY4, who stole what, got arrested, and started XYZ company. Yet the more I read, and more flavors I tried, the more confused I became. This lead me to one thing everyone seemed to agree upon. Dekang was the origination of RY4. While this in itself is also debated, Dekang is agreed to be the largest manufacture of e-liquid in the world supplying up to 90% of all juice on the market. So if anyone should be the reference of this mystical flavor, it could be derived that it would be DeKang.
At any rate, I acquired a bottle of RY4 from DeKang for this review. To outright describe the flavor is near impossible. It really smells and tastes unlike anything I can associate it with. Its not very sweet, great vapor production, nice hit, smokey, and dry. At times reminds me of dark chocolate with undertones of model glue. Yes, model glue, like the stuff you used to build model cars when you were a kid.
That explanation makes it sound bad, and while I'm almost certain this flavor is not for everyone, I do find it addictive, deep, and complex. There is something about this combination of aromas that irritates the mind. Its almost like itching a mosquito bite where the more you itch, the more it itches. Ever vape leaves you in a subtle confused state trying to figure out what you just experienced, which then forces you to go back for more.
I will say, this RY4 is not for the "I love the sweet caramel and vanilla undertones of RY4" crowd. Its not that simple at all. Its much more mysterious, and hiding out of peripheral vision while being an elephant in the room.
I don't know what it is, or if I even like it, but I think I'll have another vape to find out. Surely if I keep trying, soon everything will click and the answers will fall into place.
Until then, keep chasing the dragon.
