Hi everyone, I have actually been reading posts on here for 7 months, as long as I have been vaping and quit anologs...:D My profession is in Dentistry for the last 10 years and I pay really close attention to my oral hygiene. I have noticed more staining on my lingual(tongue side) of my anterior(front) teeth! As a tabacco smoker, I never had much staining, but as a vaper I do. Has anyone noticed this dark black staining?:?: I do know that my overall gingival tissues have improved though! Not as red and puffy as when smoking. Any feedback would be helpful and satisfy my curiosity.
Thanks

Many juices have food coloring in them because the flavoring is concentrated professional food flavoring

I've been mostly vaping vanilla (it's brownish) and Voodoo (almost colorless) and my tongue looks fine.

I did notice previously when I was using whistle-tip carts that the vapor went right across the right side of my tongue. Now I am vaping cartos

Haven't really had any noticable change (to me). Been vaping a little over three months though and in the last month or so have had a couple people ask me if I had started "whitening", as my smile seemed brighter. I have made no changes to my normal oral care habbits. Seems to me that things are actually improving over when I smoked analogs.

So are you vaping mostly darker colored liquids or clear? I would think that the color of the liquid would have more to do with it due to the colorings present. Like drinking red koolade will make your tongue and teeth red for a bit or stain the heck out of Formica counters (until they are bleached).

I have a theory that it may have more to do with dry mouth than anything else. Less spit in there to wash stuff away.

That makes a lot of sense.

A somewhat related observation I've made is that I don't need to brush my tongue nearly as often since I switched to vaping. When I was smoking, I routinely had a coating on my tongue that I brushed off twice daily as part of my usual tooth brushing routine. (I always attributed this primarily to dairy consumption.) However, after only a couple of weeks vaping, that seemed to disappear almost completely. Now, I only brush my tongue a few times a week.

I suppose this makes for a pretty gross discussion, but I'm curious if anybody else has experienced this.

I totally get the tongue brushing thing. I used to have a "last cig of the day" and then brush my teeth and tongue and go to bed but when I got up in the morning my mouth tasted like I had just had a cigarette. I was like, man, this stuff is actually leaking out of my mouth tissue? How's it do that?

Now I just have plain old gross morning breath like the rest of the world. Improvement? questionable.

Hello to all,
Vaping is new to me but dentistry is not I have been in the field for 40+ yr. There are all kind of stains but I will limit this discussion to what is call extrinsic or surface stain. The most common types are green, , orange, yellow black and brown. The first two are almost exclusive to poor oral hygiene or as I like to say , people who don't stand in the same room as their tooth brush. The color of the 1st 2 and the last one are from an over abundance of a bacteria that is cromogenic ie produces a color as a byproduct of it metabolism.
Black or specifically black line is also a cromogenic stain which you will get even if you do not consume the traditional things that cause stain(coffee, tea, smoking and wine). Now we get to the brown which is the most common. This comes from things that are dark colored. What I would question is the staining coming from the actual e-juice vapor. I did a simple test, I covered my cartridge with a tissue and vaped several times and then looked at the tissue. No color visible on the tissue. I use 16mg dekang Mocha. Oh the things I do for science; I then took an analog Marlboro and did the same thing with a tissue, big brown spot!(No I did not inhale, yuck!) What I'm leaning more to is the dry mouth theory and not the e-juice especially if you have one of the other stain causing habits. Dry mouth reeks havoc in the mouth, cavities increase gum tissue gets red and yes stain increases. Oral tissue and teeth are designed to be kept wet.
I am no scientist. My theory is my own at this point until we get some research. Let me know what you think.
