Timirichard sir figured that was the case. Will be redoing the process with those variables tonight. Also, the batts don't screw all the way in on these chargers (between 2/3's-3/4's way) is anyone over tightening them? Will try to crack it tonight... Also later will show a batt that got just a minimal amount of juice in it (thank you to the person who sent it to me), didn't gunk up the switch but shorted out the post. Will still light up, but no voltage is being put out.... Another reason to be as careful as possible with drip filling and condom filling on the king diamond and stealth series....

Morandir sir,
Thanks for all your research. I am aware that on the new slim line charger you cant screw battery all the way down. On mine (I had 2 before the one died) I can barley get a full turn on them. I use the drip and spin method and I am very careful. I did gunk a new vt1002 diamond series battery up and was able to recover it (at least so far)
Thanks again

I have 4 of the new chargers on a power strip (my dad does as well) We both turn off the power strip when not charging our batteries. We both use the heck out of them and have not had any issues..but you never know with electronics. I don't even like charging batteries when I'm not home or asleep just in case.

I am the same way Iowa....I don't leave them unattended. I'd never forgive myself if something happened and all my babies suffered cause of it. Another reason I don't leave my pt plugged in when not in use....I can see one of my cats laying on it and hittin that button
what's even funnier is I can picture the cat doing that too...followed by the cat running scared from the juice popping :D

Was able to duplicate the issue, left the charger plugged in and the power strip on. The batt will flash only 3 times, but no vapor is produced. Am hooking it up to the multimeter set up in a bit to see what it's putting out and will try to see if there's a way to salvage it. Charger worked again after leaving it un-plugged for ten minutes, so at least it didn't fry....

This was after charging 3 other batts without issue btw.

Morandir, your research is awesome, thank you! In my case, it was a new (only used a couple of times) slim charger and the "blown up" battery was a new red XL manual battery. On vacation, so it was plugged into wall outlet, not a pwr strip. V4L replaced the battery. Both chargers seem to be working now too!

Thanks Morandir, but sorry if you had to sacrifice a battery to this experience. I always plug the charger in first, so that I know when to stop screwing it in by the blinky blinky of the led. Guess I either need to change that habit or stick to the regular chargers - like the new design, but I'm remembering why I tend *not* to be an early adapter when it comes to electronics... I'm gathering from the feedback that it was likely the charger that was the issue, not the battery, but that I'm probably ok to keep using the charger (if it still works).... think I'll find an old battery rather than one of my new ones to experiment with though.

Well tried every thing I could, the batt is dead. Took it apart, checked the batt itself using a multimeter, the batt was putting out only 3.61v (it was dead when I tried recharging it), so it wasn't the batt. Thinking it's the logic chip got fried, will try to test it this upcoming week... RIP Shadow nights, you will be missed...

Morandir, I'm sorry! I feel responsible for the untimely death of your batt, will replace it for you if you'll let me.

This issue has me more than a little irritated.... guess I needed (yet another) reminder that newest, fastest, "coolest", isn't always best....

that's also known as being on the "bleeding edge"...and there's a reason they call it that (especially when it comes to computers!) :D
