TMI alert!

I have found that vaping vg is making me run to the bathroom. I did realize that "glycerin suppositories" are used for constipation, but thought inhaling glycerin wouldn't produce the same effect. Boy was I wrong! :|

I got this from webmd:
GLYCEROL

.hideFromJS {display:none;} Other Names:

1,2,3-propanetriol, Glicerol, Glucerite, Glycerin, Glycerine, Glycerolum, Glyceryl Alcohol, Vegetable Glycerin.

GLYCEROL Overview Information

Glycerol is a naturally occurring chemical. People use it as a medicine. Some uses and dosage forms have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

How does it work?

Glycerol attracts water into the gut, softening stools and relieving constipation.

GLYCEROL Uses & Effectiveness

Likely Effective for:

  • Constipation, when used rectally as a suppository.

Possibly Ineffective for:

  • Helping with weight loss, when taken by mouth.

Likely Ineffective for:

  • Improving exercise performance when taken by mouth.
  • Treating stroke when used intravenously.

Insufficient Evidence for:

  • Helping maintain the body's water levels (hydration) in athletes and people with intestinal problems, and other conditions.

GLYCEROL Side Effects & Safety

Glycerol is safe for most adults. It may not be safe when preparations of glycerol are used which have not been reviewed for safety and efficacy by the FDA. When taken by mouth, glycerol can cause side effects including headaches, dizziness, bloating, nausea, vomiting, thirst, and .........

Glycerol may not be safe when injected intravenously (I.V. use). Red blood cells might get seriously damaged.

Do not use glycerol if:

  • You are pregnant or breast-feeding.

GLYCEROL Interactions

We currently have no information for GLYCEROL Interactions

GLYCEROL Dosing

The following doses have been studied in scientific research:
RECTAL:

  • As an adult laxative for constipation: the common dose of glycerol is 2-3 grams in suppository form or a 5-15 mL enema. For children younger than six years old, the dose is 1-1.7 grams as a suppository or a 2-5 mL enema.

No, you're not alone with this. Digestive oddities with VG are something we know about. If you search through older posts you'll find quite a bit on it. I think Cash is one who talks about some nasty problems with it.

Sheesh, check some of my older ones too. I have issues with VG. and felt like I was alone for a while. That stuff wreaks havok on my bowels and I stopped using it. I seem to be a minority, but I have tried VG twice about a week apart and have the same symptoms. No more VG for me....

You guys are a minority, but I gather that for those of you you have these problems with VG, it's bad and nothing's gonna make it tolerable.

I like the effect VG has on the vapor and use some in my recipes, but it sure isn't enough of an improvement that I would keep trying if it had that effect on me. PG works just fine. To anyone who can't tolerate VG but is okay with PG, I'd say to just be glad there's a good option. As long as I have something that keeps me away from cigarettes I'm content.

How odd... I have been experiencing the reverse... I have been very constipated every since I quit smoking and started vaping (no matter how much fiber I consume!)... and came across this thread in hopes of finding someone with the same experience. I just assumed it was from quitting smoking rather than the vape ingredients since it always seemed smoking "helps things git movin' down ther"...

On a side note, using Glycerin to facilitate a bowl movement is, in fact, VERY effective.

In the very beginning I was experiencing a shortness of breath. I read about a few other having this problem and how maybe switching to VG could help. I went 100% VG for 2-3 weeks and never had a problem with "elimination".

As it turned out, I was drawing way too hard trying to get throathit and that's what was causing my problems. Once I figured out how to vape properly, it all settled in and I went back to 70/30 or 80/20 PG.
